Trump threatens Sanders: I’ll send my supporters to your rallies
(JTA) — A day after Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders called Donald Trump a “pathological liar,” the Republican front-runner ramped up the rhetoric, threatening to send his supporters to Sanders rallies.
Trump has accused Sanders supporters of disrupting his rallies, including one in Chicago on Friday night that was canceled following skirmishes between backers of the Republican front-runner and protesters.
Early Sunday morning, in a tweet, Trump wrote: “Bernie Sanders is lying when he says his disruptors aren’t told to go to my events. Be careful Bernie, or my supporters will go to yours!”

Militant infighting intensifies in Syria’s Idlib
A fresh wave of infighting has erupted between rival anti-government groups in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib, leaving a number of militants dead or injured.
Militants from 13th Division of the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) and al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front terrorists engaged in a fighting in Idlib’s Ma’arrat al-Numan district, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Sunday.
According to the report, the skirmishes left six FSA militants dead and 40 others wounded while dozens more were taken captive.
Two armored vehicles belonging to foreign-sponsored FSA elements were destroyed and the militants were forced to leave their positions.
Meanwhile, other clashes were reported between Takfiri Daesh terrorists and armed militiamen near a village located in the northern suburb of Aleppo as well as on the southern outskirt of Hasakah.
The clashes come at a time that Syria’s warring parties are gearing up to resume the UN-brokered peace talks due on March 14 in the Swiss city of Geneva.

Syrian forces make more headway in Homs
The Syrian army and its allied forces have recaptured new areas from Takfiri militants in the central-western province of Homs, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorists, military sources say.
Army units, in cooperation with the popular defense groups, took control of several areas near the historic city of Palmyra, which is controlled by Daesh terror group, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported on Saturday.
The Syrian forces also eliminated the remaining Daesh elements and destroyed their fortifications during their operation. In addition, bomb disposal units dismantled the explosive devices that the terrorists had left behind.
Troops also struck the hideouts of militants in the eastern countryside of Homs while the Syrian Air Force inflicted heavy losses on Daesh terrorists by targeting them and their positions in its aerial attacks in the southeast of the province.
In another development, Syrian forces thwarted an attempt by the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front terrorists to infiltrate a number of military positions in al-Mughir, Bridj, Tal al-Sakhr, as well as Hamamiyat in Hama Province’s northwestern countryside, according to a military source.
Army units managed to kill 19 Takfiri militants and destroy two armed vehicles belonging to them. Furthermore, two ammunition depots in the region were demolished.
Syrian forces have recently been making rapid advances against terrorists, who are committing heinous crimes against all groups of people in several parts of the crisis-hit country.

Merkel faces test on refugee stance as ‘Super Sunday’ regional elections begin in Germany

Voting booths have opened in Germany, where people are going to the polls in three states in what is widely seen as the biggest electoral challenge for Chancellor Angela Merkel ahead of next year’s general election, and a test of support for her open door migrant policy.
“We can of course see a certain connection between recent developments in immigration policy of the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel, and there’s a certain unsatisfaction among the population that shows that this increases the tendency to vote for right-wing parties in Germany,” geopolitical analyst and consultant Reiner Rothfuss told RT.
“We would need different political answers, we need a change to policy in the Middle East, we need an open debate on the problems of immigration. As long as this is not put on the political agenda neither by the established parties nor by new parties as the alternative for Germany, we will not have any long-term solution,” he added.
Germany is preparing to allocate tens of billions of euro for migrant accommodation, integration and language lessons in 2016-2017. A forecast prepared by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research estimated that incoming asylum seekers will cost the federal budget about €50 billion (US$54.3 billion) in 2016-2017. This year, Germany could let in some 1.5 million refugees, compared to 1.1 million in 2015.
The mass assaults that saw groups of men, presumably of North African and Middle East origin, sexually harass and rob about 1,000 women in the German city of Cologne on New Year`s Eve sparked outrage across the country, with many demanding punishment for the perpetrators as well as stricter border controls.

Several thousand right-wing demonstrators marched through the streets of Berlin to protest Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door refugee policy on Saturday, chanting “Merkel must go” and “We are the people.”
Nearly 3,000 protesters carrying German flags and banners took part in a demonstration against the German government’s migration policy. People gathered at Washingtonplatz next to the capital’s main train station and then moved in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate.
The event was organized by a group called “We for Berlin & We for Germany,” whose main aim is to force Merkel and her government to step down. Among other demands, the group wants an end put to the “dictatorship” of the EU and stricter border controls, while claiming that they are against radicalism, “whether religious or politically motivated.”
There were also members of PEGIDA, an anti-Islam and anti-migrant group, among the demonstrators, as well as a number of other nationalist groups and ordinary people who are unhappy with the current state of affairs in Germany.
“Merkel works against her own people. She underestimates the consequences of allowing so many people with such different backgrounds into our country,” one of the protesters told RT’s Peter Oliver.
“We are against Merkel’s policy because everyone can come here, even terrorists. You don’t even need documents and they can stay here without any control. We need to stop it,” said another demonstrator.

Russia says no to Syrian federalization as former NATO commander talks partition

While media rumors claim that Moscow sees a post-crisis Syria as a federalized state, Russia denies holding such an opinion. At the same time, a ‘plan B’ mentioned by John Kerry to break up the Arab country has gained backing from an ex-NATO commander.
Reuters reported on Thursday that Russia was engaged in talks with other global powers on the possibility of turning Syria into a federal state.
“While insisting on retaining the territorial integrity of Syria, so continuing to keep it as a single country, of course there are all sorts of different models of a federal structure that would, in some models, have a very, very loose center and a lot of autonomy for different regions,” a diplomatic source at the UN Security Council told the agency.

Dick Cheney heaps praise on Hillary Clinton
Former US vice president Dick Cheney has praised Hillary Clinton as one of the more competent members of President Barack Obama’s administration, saying it would be “interesting to speculate” on how she would perform as president.
Mr Cheney was asked in an interview with Fox News whether the Democrats would have been better off with Mrs Clinton than Mr Obama as their candidate in 2012.
“Well, I certainly wouldn’t want to discourage good primary contest on their side, but I don’t want to be the position of endorsing Hillary Clinton. That might be the kiss of death for her,” he said.
Mrs Clinton ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2008 elections but lost to Mr Obama, who made her his secretary of state. She has shown no interest in challenging Mr Obama in 2012.
But Mr Cheney, who has made numerous television interviews in recent days promoting his memoir and defending his own controversial performance during the Bush administration, was happy to stir the Democratic pot.

Netanyahu warns Hamas on rocket fire following deadly retaliatory strikes
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hamas must prevent the firing of rockets from Gaza on Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted after Israel retaliated for rocket fire with airstrikes on what it called “Hamas sites,” reportedly killing Palestinian siblings, 10 and 6.
Netanyahu’s remarks on Sunday morning at the weekly Cabinet meeting came after four rockets were fired on southern Israel on Friday night. The rockets landed in open areas, causing no injuries.
Israel responded early Saturday morning by bombing what it called four “Hamas sites in the Gaza Strip.” A Palestinian boy, 10, and his sister, 6, who lived in a home located near one of the sites, a Hamas training camp, died as a result of the airstrikes, according to Palestinian reports.
“Our policy regarding the Gaza Strip is clear: Israel will not accept rocket fire of any kind from the strip at its territory,” Netanyahu said. “The IDF will respond to any such provocation. Israel holds Hamas responsible for all firing carried out from the Gaza Strip toward Israel; Hamas must prevent such firing.”

Turkey imposes curfews in two Kurdish towns
Turkey has announced a new round-the-clock curfew in two Kurdish-dominated towns in its southeast as part of operations to battle Kurdish militants.
Turkish authorities on Sunday declared indefinite curfews in the towns of Yuksekova and Nusaybin.
The office of the governor of Hakkari Province, which borders Iraq and Iran, said a curfew would take effect in Yuksekova at 2000 GMT (4 p.m. EDT) Sunday, adding that entering and leaving the town would also be banned.
Authorities in Mardin Province also announced curfew in the town of Nusaybin – on the border with Syria -starting midnight.
Ankara has been imposing curfews in several mainly-Kurdish towns in its southeast since August last year. It has also been conducting offensives against the positions of the militants in northern Syria and northern Iraq.
The operations began in the wake of a deadly July 2015 bombing in the southern Turkish town of Suruc. More than 30 people died in the attack, which the Turkish government blamed on the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group.

Israeli troops shoot, injure Palestinian teenager in Gaza Strip
Israeli military forces have shot and injured a Palestinian teenager in the Gaza Strip days after the regime’s air raids left two children dead in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
Palestinian sources said the unnamed 16-year-old Palestinian boy was collecting gravel east of Gaza City on Sunday morning, when Israeli troopers opened fire, Arabic-language Safa news agency reported.
Gaza’s Health Ministry spokesman, Ashraf al-Qidra, said the boy was struck in the hand, describing his gunshot wounds as moderate.
Separately, Israeli soldiers standing on watchtowers overlooking Sufa kibbutz on the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip fired shots at Palestinian shepherds and workers and hurled smoke bombs at them. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Tens of thousands of protesters have turned up for an anti-government rally in Warsaw demanding that the ruling party respect the constitution. The demonstration comes amid an ongoing conflict between the Polish government and Constitution Court.
Over 50,000 people waving Polish and EU flags filled the streets of Warsaw on Saturday, AFP reports.
“Many of us are afraid that we will have dictatorship in Poland. Do not be afraid, come with us, we will defend the Polish constitution, we will defend democracy,” Kamila Gasiuk-Pihowicz, a spokesperson for the Modern Party, told the crowd, according to RT’s Ruptly video agency.
The protesters started their rally near the Constitutional Court building and marched three kilometers to the presidential palace in Warsaw’s old town.

Tell us true number of EU migrants: Whitehall is covering up the shocking figure ahead of EU poll, say MPs
- HMRC refuses to publish figures that could have impact on EU debate
- Up to 1.3million extra migrants are living in the UK, MPs claim
- ONS figures show 904,000 EU migrants have arrived in Britain since 2010
- But officials issued 2.2m national insurance numbers to EU migrants
The true scale of immigration to Britain by EU citizens is being kept secret by Government officials, it emerged last night.
Top civil servants, led by HMRC boss Lin Homer, are refusing to publish figures that could reveal up to 1.3million extra migrants living in the UK. If revealed, the data could have an explosive impact on the EU debate.
MPs said the public were at risk of being ‘misled’ ahead of the ‘once-in-a-lifetime decision’ over whether Britain should re-take control of its borders. Requests to get to the truth have been thwarted for more than three months, with time now running out before the June 23 vote.
HMRC boss Lin Homer (pictured left) has been frustrating attempts by Andrew Tyrie (right), head of Westminster’s Treasury select committee, to obtain the data
The row centres on a huge gap between two sets of data relating to immigration.
Office for National Statistics figures show some 904,000 EU migrants have arrived in Britain since June 2010 – but in the same time, officials issued 2.2million national insurance numbers to EU migrants. The ONS yesterday admitted the numbers do not appear to add up.

The huge event held in Manhattan is the biggest aliyah event that Nefesh B’Nefesh conducts every year, usually drawing over a thousand people from all age groups. This year a record number of attendees was seen, with more than 1,300 people, an increase of 30 percent from last year,

Japanese tour guides are planning to improve the image of Paris following the November terror attacks. The organizers want to stage a huge clean-up in the French capital and are even going to plant sakura – the national flower of the Land of the Rising Sun.
The event is being organized by the Paris Tourism Association – a group of nine Japanese tour operators – and Japan Airlines, and is set to take place March 13.
The group will start with the “beautification and renewal of the Trocadero gardens” located near the Eiffel Tower, and will plant the famous sakura (cherry blossom) trees which are a symbol of Japan, French media reported.
