Iraq’s ruling bloc wants Russian airstrikes, politician tells RT ‘lack of trust’ between Iraq & US
“The largest bloc has sent a request to the prime minister to add further forces to the fight against terrorism and not only to rely on the United States and the international coalition, which has up till now been rather shy in its efforts to destroy [Islamic State] bases in Iraq,”Saad Al-Matlabi, a member of the country’s State of Law Coalition, told RT.
“Therefore it is understandable that the Iraqi parliament and the defense committee would send a request to the prime minister to add more forces and in particular the forces of the Russian Federation, which has proved quite efficient in destroying [Islamic State] bases in neighboring Syria.”
The Iraqi politician told RT that the US has been “shy” in its efforts to try and eliminate the threat posed by Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL). He also mentioned that not only is there a consensus amongst Iraqi politicians for Moscow to be involved, but also from the general public.
“The public mood is definitely in favor of Russian involvement because it has been over a year and a half now and ISIS has flourished in Iraq under the American airstrikes. One could question the honesty and integrity of the US airstrikes.”

The Russian Air Force eliminated 83 militant targets in 46 sorties in the last 24 hours, bombing terrorist groups in five Syrian provinces, destroying camps, warehouses, vehicles and workshops, the MoD’s spokesman, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said in a briefing on Wednesday.
The airstrikes hit targets of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Al-Nusra Front in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Deir al-Zor, Hama, Idlib and Latakia.
“An airstrike by a Sukhoi Su-25SM ground-support fighter jet group eliminated a large compound of Al-Nusra Front [Al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria] near the city of Khan-Shaykhun, together with all infrastructure, arms depots and vehicles,” he said.

The two leaders conducted lengthy negotiations, which then continued in the presence of Russia’s top policymakers.

Russia, US sign cooperation deal on Syria airstrikes
The agreement, whose full name is “The Memorandum of Mutual Understanding between the Defense Ministries of Russia and the United States on preventing incidents and providing for aviation flights during operations in Syria” is hailed as a ‘positive step’, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a press release.
The document “has important practical value. It regulates the actions of manned and unmanned aircraft in the airspace above Syria. The Memorandum contains a set of rules and limitations aimed at preventing incidents between the air forces of Russia and the US,” the Defense Ministry says.
As soon as the agreement comes into force, there will be 24/7 communication channels established between the Russian and American military commanders. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, its US counterparts have pledged to convey the agreement’s details to their anti-Islamic State coalition partners, so that they, too, follow the rules it sets.
The signing of the Memorandum “shows a high potential for cooperation between Russia and the US, including in the fight against terrorism”.
However, the Defense Ministry stresses that the Memorandum is strictly “military and technical” and it’s signing does not change Russia’s principal position, which is that “its military is acting in Syria at the request of the legitimate authorities, whereas the use of force in one country’s territory by another country without its authorities’ agreement or a ruling by the UN Security Council is against international law.”
The ratification of the memorandum was preceded by three televised conferences between Russian and American military representatives, who prepared the final text of the document, Colonel-General Andrey Kartapolov said, TASS reported.

Biden says he won’t run for president
WASHINGTON (JTA) — Vice President Joe Biden, perhaps the closest Obama administration official to the pro-Israel community, said he is not running for president.
Biden appeared Wednesday with his wife, Jill, and President Barack Obama at the White House to deliver his announcement.
Speculation has mounted for weeks that Biden, whose son Beau’s wish before dying in May of brain cancer was that his father run for president, might enter the race.
“I would have wanted to be the president who ended cancer,” he said. “Because it’s possible.”

UN chief fails to condemn Israeli aggression against Palestinians
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has failed to condemn Israeli atrocities against Palestinians during a visit to the occupied territories.
The UN chief on Wednesday only expressed condolences to the victims of recent Israeli aggression against Palestinians during a press conference after a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.
“We will continue to support all efforts to create the conditions to make meaningful negotiations possible,” Ban told journalists after the meeting.
He, however, said there is no justification for the killings by Israelis in the occupied territories.
According to a report by the Palestinian Health Ministry, over 50 Palestinians, including 12 children, have been killed in clashes with Israeli forces and settlers since October began.
The report also says that more than 5,560 Palestinians have been injured in clashes over the same time span.

Iran’s Supreme Leader approves nuclear deal, orders govt implementation on conditions
In a letter to President Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s highest authority said the US and European Union should clearly announce the elimination of sanctions against Tehran. Khamenei has warned that the deal has several structural weak points.
Khamenei adds in his letter that any remarks, suggesting that sanctions against Iran will remain in place for some reason, would go against the agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries (the US, UK, France, China and Russia, plus Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear program.

‘No circumcision for my son – it’s not moral’
Rani Kasher decided not to circumcise his third son after conducting research; he is now an anti-circumcision activist and plans on writing a book on it.
Why do we circumcise our baby boys?
Most of us automatically answer it because that’s the custom, that it is a mitzvah, to honor the family, or because it’s healthy. Few of us give further thought to the ancient practice.
