Huckabee coming to Israel to fundraise, talk Iran
TEL AVIV (JTA) — Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is coming to Israel to raise campaign funds and discuss the Iran nuclear deal.
The former Arkansas governor will arrive in Israel on Tuesday, according to The Associated Press. A spokesman said the trip would be “brief” and did not provide further details. Huckabee is a frequent visitor to Israel, coming multiple times a year.
Announcing the trip Sunday on CNN, Huckabee said Iran is “not to be trusted.”
“We’re being pushed to get into a deal that gives us nothing, but gives the Iranians the capacity to ultimately end up with a nuclear weapon, and that’s just insane,” Huckabee said, according to AP. The other Republican candidates also oppose the agreement reached last month between six world powers, led by the United States, and Iran.

Palestinian man shot dead in occupied West Bank
Israeli forces have opened fire and fatally shot a Palestinian man in the northern part of the occupied West Bank as he allegedly sought to stab an Israeli border policeman at a checkpoint.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the slain Palestinian purportedly approached the checkpoint at the Tapuah junction near Nablus, situated approximately 49 kilometers (30 miles) north of al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Monday, and then tried to carry out a stabbing attack.
She added that another Israeli border policeman saw the alleged attempt, and shot the Palestinian man, killing him on the spot.
The development came only two days after another Palestinian man, identified as 21-year-old Rafiq Taj, succumbed to his wounds sustained after allegedly stabbing an Israeli border policeman at the Beita junction near Nablus.
Tensions remain high in the West Bank following the recent death of an 18-month-old Palestinian baby boy in an arson attack on his home by Israeli settlers.

Israelis given green light to kill Palestinians: PA
The Palestinian Authority (PA) says Israel is allowing its soldiers to carry out “field executions” against Palestinian youths.
The PA Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Tel Aviv gave its forces the green light to kill Palestinians.
The statement said that “the ministry affirms that the field executions practiced by the occupation forces against Palestinian teenagers is in accordance with the policy” of Tel Aviv.“They are also in line with the inflammatory instructions that give the occupation soldiers a green light to facilitate the opening of fire and the killing of Palestinians.”
The statement also said that the PA was preparing a report on Tel Aviv’s “field execution” in order to file charges with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Palestinian ministry added that the deadly violence on Palestinians should be directed against illegal Israeli settlers who have recently increased terrorist attacks against Palestinians.
The remarks come a day after a Palestinian teenager identified as Ahmad Kamel Taj was shot dead by Israeli forces near the West Bank village of Tubas after he allegedly left an Israeli soldier slightly injured in a knife attack.
The PA further said Israeli forces executed Taj, adding he was left to bleed to death after medical teams were prevented from saving him.

British Labor Party to investigate anti-Semitic messages to lawmakers
(JTA) — Britain’s Labor Party said it will launch an investigation after some of its members received anti-Semitic messages for opposing a candidate for party leadership.
Labor lawmaker John Mann, who chairs the the All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism, has received dozens of anti-Semitic emails and tweets during the past six weeks, according to the Jewish Chronicle. Mann is a vocal opponent of Jeremy Corbyn, a member of Parliament running for the leadership of the Labor Party who has referred to anti-Israel terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah as “friends.”
The Chronicle reported that Mann received messages calling him “utter filth” and a “Zionist stooge.” Mann said other Labor parliamentarians have received similar messages.
“I have very serious concerns about Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters,” Mann told the British Sunday Express, according to the Chronicle. “I’ve received some vicious anti-Semitic abuse and I’m expecting the Labour Party to take action against this.”

Hamas, Israel reportedly negotiating long-term accord
TEL AVIV (JTA) — Israel and Hamas reportedly are negotiating a long-term deal that would end Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip in exchange for an end to Hamas attacks on Israel.
Based on Arabic-language news sources, Israeli papers are reporting that negotiations on the agreement are in their final stages, and that the agreement has been approved by the Shura Council, Hamas’ legislative body. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is mediating the accord, and Hamas is negotiating it in partnership with Turkey and Qatar.
The agreement reportedly would include the construction of a port in the Gaza Strip. En route to Gaza, ships would pass through another port in Cyprus, where they would be examined by either Turkish or NATO authorities. According to the Times of Israel, the agreement also would include permits for thousands of Gazan day laborers to work in Israel. In exchange, Hamas would commit to ceasing all rocket attacks and tunneling into Israel.
Negotiations received encouragement recently from Saudi Arabia, which aims to create a broad, Sunni-based alliance to counter Iran’s regional ambitions, according to Haaretz. The same newspaper reported that the Israel-Hamas agreement would improve Israel’s ties with Turkey, which deteriorated after nine Turks were killed when the Israel Defense Forces stormed a Turkish boat aimed at breaking Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza in 2010.

Israeli bulldozers demolish Bedouin buildings in al-Quds
Israeli bulldozers have demolished a number of residential buildings in an area populated by Palestinian Bedouins in East al-Quds (Jerusalem), local residents say.
Witnesses and local Palestinian residents said the bulldozers escorted by Israeli forces demolished structures belonging to more than 20 families of the Jahalin Bedouin community in Khan al-Ahmar area of eastern Jerusalem in the early hours of Monday, Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported.
This came after the Israeli regime issued demolition orders to hundreds of Palestinian Bedouins living in the region.
Palestinian Bedouins have refused to leave their land despite Israeli regime’s determination to press ahead with the forceful eviction of the ethnic group.
The Arab ethnic community has lived in Khan al-Ahmar encampments, which lie between al-Quds (Jerusalem) and Jericho, since being forced out of their ancestral homes in Negev desert.

Poor marks on Iran deal drop Obama’s approval rating in poll
President earns 47% satisfaction in Gallup survey, but only a third agreed with his handling of the nuclear deal
Only a third of American respondents to a survey about President Barack Obama’s performance said they approved of his handling of the Iran nuclear deal.
In eight issues measured in the new Gallop survey published Thursday, Obama scored lowest when it came to the Iran deal — a controversial US-led agreement that, if approved and implemented, will result in the lifting of some sanction on Iran in exchange for it scaling back its nuclear activities.
In total, Obama scored an approval rating of 47 percent in the survey, which was conducted this month in telephone interviews with a random sample of 1,011 adults from across the United States. The margin of sampling error is four percentage points.
The president’s policy toward Iran has been a major focus as he tries to drum up support for the accord. Obama earns his highest marks on race relations, education and climate change, though he does not receive majority approval on any.
As recently as February, Americans gave Iran the lowest favorable rating of 22 countries, and a strong majority felt Iran’s development of nuclear weapons posed a “critical” threat to the United States.
