N.J.’s Christie: Obama has not stood by Israel

October 29, 2014 9:23am

WASHINGTON (JTA) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a likely contender for the Republican presidential nomination for 2016, accused President Obama of not standing by Israel.

Obama has not stood “strong and hard for our allies in Israel,” Christie said during an event last weekend honoring Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, according to NJ.com, a website that focuses on New Jersey news.

Christie in his speech focused on what he said was a lack of foreign policy leadership in the White House.

Prospective candidates generally stump frequently in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire — crucial early primary states — before declaring for president.

Palestine must recognize Jewish Israel for peace: Netanyahu

Wed Oct 29, 2014 8:51AM
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says no peace agreement will be achieved with the Palestinians unless they recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

“A peace treaty will be possible with the following formula: A demilitarized Palestinian state that will recognize Israel,” Netanyahu said in a speech at the opening of the winter session of the Knesset on Monday.

He also claimed that Israel has the right to declare Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.

“The French build in Paris, the English build in London, the Israelis build in Jerusalem. Should we tell Jews not to live in Jerusalem because it will stir things up?” Netanyahu asked.

Video shows ISIL fighters, Turkish soldiers chatting

Wed Oct 29, 2014 11:24PM
A newly released video shows Turkish border forces chatting with the ISIL Takfiri militants.

The amateur footage, which was released on YouTube on Tuesday, is said to have been filmed in the Zarova Hill near the Syria-Turkey border.

The video has once again raised questions over Turkey’s controversial stance towards the ISIL terrorist group.

Ankara has been severely criticized in recent weeks for blocking any delivery of military, medical or humanitarian assistance into Kobani, where the Takfiri terrorists are feared to be aiming at massive bloodletting.

Egypt plans to set up buffer zone along Gaza border

Wed Oct 29, 2014 5:56AM
Egypt has ordered residents living along its eastern border with the Gaza Strip to evacuate so that it can demolish their homes and create a buffer zone.

The move comes after at least 31 Egyptian soldiers were killed and some 30 others were wounded in an attack in the northeastern part of the restive Sinai Peninsula on Friday.

A state of emergency was declared in the north and center of the Sinai for three months after Friday’s deadly assaults while a curfew is in place from 5 p.m. (1500 GMT on Friday) to 7 a.m. (0500 GMT) every night.

The buffer zone will be 500 meters wide and extend along the 13-kilometer border.

Jewish group wants Netanyahu attacker ‘held to account’

WASHINGTON (JTA) — A major Jewish American policy group called on the White House to “hold to account” an anonymous official who slurred Benjamin Netanyahu, while another declared the matter closed.

“We ask that the person responsible be held to account and the appropriate steps be taken by the administration,” said a statement Wednesday from the leadership of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the foreign policy umbrella for Jewish groups, referring to a report this week in the Atlantic quoting an anonymous official as describing the Israeli prime minister as “chickenshit.”

Palestinian MP expelled from Knesset for six months

Wed Oct 29, 2014 11:31PM
A Palestinian member of the Israeli parliament (Knesset) has been suspended for six months because of her pro-Palestinian stance.

Sixty-eight Israeli lawmakers voted to expel Haneen Zoabi on Wednesday following a ruling by the Knesset Ethics Committee on July 29.

Back in June, Zoabi refused to condemn the abduction of three Israeli settlers, which Tel Aviv blamed on Palestinians. She has also been blamed for calls on Palestinians to hold anti-Israel protests.

Zoabi called the Knesset’s decision “unprecedented, vengeful, and disproportionate,” saying those who backed it were “raising their hands in favor of political persecution.”
