Meir Dagan, the former head of Israel’s Mossad spy agency

A former head of Israel’s Mossad spy agency has described as “bullshit” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the US Congress, saying the Israeli premier lied to the US lawmakers about Iran’s nuclear threat.

In an interview with Israel’s Channel Two aired on Friday, Meir Dagan said Netanyahu’s anti-Iran rant was no more than “a political speech that caused diplomatic and defense damage to Israel.”

He warned that Netanyahu’s policies toward the nuclear negotiations between Iran the P5+1 group of countries would only bring out the Israeli regime’s growing isolation in the international community.

Dagan also lashed out at the Israeli premier for antagonizing US President Barack Obama over Iran’s nuclear program.

Last week, the former Mossad chief accused Netanyahu of bringing “intolerable” risks upon the Israeli regime by fraying ties with the US, adding the premier’s policies are detrimental to Tel Aviv’s future and security.

Israeli forces fire teargas at demonstrators protesting the closure of the eastern entrance of Azzoun town in the West Bank, February 26, 2015.

A series of fierce clashes have broken out when Israeli forces attacked separate groups of Palestinians protesting in the occupied West Bank and opened fire to disperse the crowds.

On Friday, dozens of Palestinians and international activists held a demonstration in Kafr Qaddum village, near the northern West Bank city of Qalqilya, to express their resentment over the ongoing Israeli settlement building and the separation wall.

Violence erupted when Israeli troops assaulted the protesters and fired teargas canisters to break up the protest.

Eyewitnesses said the Israeli troops also shot and injured three Palestinian civilians during the clashes.

Sources said a 17-year-old teenager was shot by a live round in his leg, and another was hit by a gas bomb in his arm. Moreover, another Palestinian sustained light wounds.

ADL condemns Farrakhan’s claim that Jews were behind 9/11

(JTA) — The Anti-Defamation League condemned Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as the “leading anti-Semite in America” after a speech in which he blamed “Israelis and Zionist Jews” for the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“At a time when anti-Semitic attitudes are at historic lows, Farrakhan’s unabashed promotion of anti-Semitism is a throwback to the intolerance of another era,” ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said in a statement issued Thursday.

Farrakhan, who has a long history of anti-Semitic remarks, delivered his speech Sunday in Chicago as part of his Saviors Day 2015 sermon.

“It is now becoming apparent that there were many Israelis and Zionist Jews in the key roles of the 9/11 attacks,” Farrakhan said. “If they can prove me wrong, I’ll pay with my life, since they want to kill me anyway. Prove me wrong. We’re dealing with thieves and liars and murderers.”

From The Onion to ‘Daily Show,’ a roundup of Speechgate satire

The Daily Show

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress Tuesday about the proposed Iran nuclear deal was one of the most anticipated and contested speeches of modern times.

The circumstances surrounding House Speaker John Boehner’s invitation, which bypassed President Barack Obama, subsequently infuriated Democrats and left many questioning Netanyahu’s motives a few weeks before Israel’s elections.

All of this also made Speechgate great fodder for satirical news outlets, which, as they are wont to do, poked fun at every angle of the speech and the media circus that surrounded it, offering political insights along the way.
