A report says US Special Forces have arrived in Yemen to fight alongside Emirati forces in alleged operations against al-Qaeda militants in the country’s south.

Yemen’s al-Masirah television channel on Sunday quoted Tom Bawman, the National Public Radio’s Pentagon reporter, as saying that the troops had arrived in Yemen on April 25.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE last year provided financial and military support to militants to confront Houthis and the Yemeni army units that had taken over the security of the country after president Abd Rabbuh Manur Hadi resigned.

US deployment of troops comes a year after the withdrawal of its forces from Yemen.

On March 21, 2015, the US evacuated its remaining forces out of al-Anad airbase in southern Yemen “due to the deteriorating security situation” a day after al-Qaeda captured the nearby city of al-Houta.

Al-Qaeda has become stronger in Yemen taking advantage of the chaos created by the Saudi military campaign against Houthis more than a year ago.

(JTA) — Saying he’d “never met a person from Israel that didn’t want to make that deal,” Donald Trump said if elected president he plans to try to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace treaty.

“I am going to try and make that deal just because  — man, would that be a beauty – if you like deals. I like deals,” the Republican presidential front-runner said at a rally Sunday in Terre Haute ahead of the Indiana primary on Tuesday, according to Jewish Insider.

“A lot of my Jewish friends say, ‘You will never be able to make the deal’ because there are so many years of hatred, especially on the other side,” Trump added. “You know, they [the Palestinians] grow up as young children hating, hating, hating Israel. I think the deal can be made. But we got to be smart, and we got to use our best people; gotta use me, but you got to use our best people. And I know the best people.”

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two clemency requests reportedly will be submitted to Israeli President Reuven Rivlin asking that he consider releasing former President Moshe Katsav, following a severe deterioration of his health.

The requests, to be filed by Katsav’s wife Gila and his attorney Zion Amir, were reported Sunday by Israeli news outlets.

According to reports, Katsav’s mental health has declined since he entered prison in December 2011, and declined very severely since the rejection last month of his request for an early release from prison on sexual assault convictions.

The Syrian army says a “regime of calm” around the capital, Damascus, has been extended for another 48 hours.

The Syrian military made the announcement in a statement quoted by state television on Monday. It made no mention of a 72-hour lull in fighting in the north of coastal Latakia Province.

On Sunday, the Syrian Armed Forces Command said in a statement it had extended a 24-hour lull in fighting in the capital which had been announced on Friday. The regime of silence affected the capital and the Eastern Ghouta region on its outskirts.

Meanwhile, head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria, Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko said Monday that talks were underway on declaring a “regime of calm” in Syria’s Aleppo Province.

“Negotiations on introducing a ‘regime of calm’ in Aleppo Province continue,” he said, as quoted by Russia’s Interfax.

Syria’s offensive in Aleppo is based on a UN Security Council resolution which accepts Syria’s right to fighting terrorists.

A huge migrant camp under the Stalingrad metro in the French capital is being evacuated, local media reported. The notorious camp with hundreds of asylum seekers earlier saw fierce battles between refugees.

Shortly after 6:00am local time (04:00 GMT), the first migrants, including those from Sudan and Afghanistan, began to board buses to take them to refugee shelters.

French security forces were positioned early Monday morning near the station, Le Parisien newspaper reported. The authorities blocked the traffic in the area and closed the station.
