Syrian officials and locals have confiscated a vehicle loaded with Israeli-manufactured weapons in the Arab country’s southern province of Suwayda.

An unidentified local source said that the authorities ambushed a car full of weapons and ammunition bound for the Daesh Takfiri terrorists on Wednesday morning, Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported.

The vehicle, which was coming from the eastern countryside of Dara’a Province, was heading to the eastern Badiya desert, the source added.

Anti-personnel landmines, RPG launcher and rounds, B9 shells, 120 mm, 80 mm and 60 mm mortars, grenades and 23 mm machine-gun rounds were among the confiscated weapons.

The car’s driver was also killed in the operation, the source further said.

Recently, Suwayda officials also impounded a large amount of medicines that were bound for terrorists operating in the eastern countryside of Dara’a Province.

A well-connected former general in the Saudi military has said the kingdom would open an embassy in Tel Aviv if Israel accepted a Saudi initiative to end the Middle East conflict.

Anwar Eshki was asked during an Al Jazeera interview how long it would be before Riyadh would open an embassy in Israel.

“You can ask Mr. Netanyahu,” Eshki replied, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Jerusalem Post reported on its website.

“If he announces that he accepts the initiative and gives all rights to Palestinians, Saudi Arabia will start to make an embassy in Tel Aviv,” Eshki said.

Eshki met publicly in June with Dore Gold just before the latter was appointed director-general of the Israeli foreign ministry. Gold said then Israel had contacts with “almost every Arab state.”

In the interview, Eshki said the Saudis are not interested in “Israel becoming isolated in the region.”

Israeli military officials have said a Daesh affiliate operating near the Syrian border with occupied Palestinian territories has obtained chemical weapons, but does not threaten Tel Aviv.

Israel’s Channel 10 said the officials feared that the outfit calling itself Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade may be planning to test the weapons.

“The group was not currently concerned with Israel and was not directing offensive efforts against it, being preoccupied with fighting other groups in the Syrian civil war,” the television said.

“Any chemical weaponry in their hands was thus not considered an immediate threat to Israelis,” it added.

Daesh reportedly carried out a chemical attack on a Syrian military airport in Dayr al-Zawr earlier this month.

In March, local Iraqi governor Najmuddin Kareem also told Reuters that the group had used “poisonous substances” during an attack on the village of Taza in northern Iraq.

‘We are a Muslim country’: Turkey’s parliament speaker advocates religious constitution

Turkey, an overwhelmingly Muslim country, should have a constitution based on Islam rather than a secular constitution, the speaker of the Turkish parliament has said in a speech. Secularism has been the cornerstone of modern Turkey for decades.

The founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, reshaped the collapsing Islamic Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century. He founded the state on Turkish nationalism and Western-style secularism, or separation of the state and religion.

However, the currently ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) apparently wants to get rid of one of the pillars of Kemalism ideology.

Israeli forces have shot dead two Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, for allegedly trying to stab Israeli officers.

The incident took place on Wednesday after a woman, purportedly holding a knife, and a man walked towards police and other Israeli security guards in a vehicles-only lane at the Qalandiya checkpoint between al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the city of Ramallah.

Israeli police said the two ignored several orders to stop.

The woman “stopped a short distance from the officers, then walked the other way with the man, when she suddenly turned around to face the officers again, pulled a knife that was in her purse and threw it at an officer near her,” Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri claimed.

A second knife similar to the woman’s was also found in the man’s belt, in addition to a butterfly knife, she added.

The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the victims as Maram Abu Ismail, 23, and her 16-year-old brother, Ibrahim Taha.

‘Democratization’ of Iraq opened door for terrorists, Libya a hotbed for ISIS – top Russian general

The US meddling in Arab countries such as Iraq and Libya has turned them into hotbeds of terrorism, the head of the Russian general staff said. Libya, in particular, has become a hub for Islamic State jihadists.

In the long run, American military interventions of the past two decades have only succeeded in fostering terrorism in the Middle East and North Africa, General Valery Gerasimov told an international security conference in Moscow.

The occupation of Iraq, the disposal of yet another strongman and ‘democratization’ of this country at gunpoint caused the majority of the dispersed military and ousted political elites to form the core of ISIS,” he said.

Similar mistakes were made in Libya, when Western powers decided to use military force to oust its leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the Russian general said.

Swedish security services are on high alert in connection with a potential terror threat, officials said. Reports in Swedish media say several Islamic State fighters have arrived in Sweden to carry out attacks on civilian targets in the capital Stockholm.

“Right now we’re gathering information and intelligence and coordinating with our national and international partners,” security police (Säpo) press spokesman Simon Bynert told the TT news agency.

He added that Säpo is also cooperating with the national police service.

“That means we’re sharing this information with them to see if they can implement measures that fall under their remit.”

US military used Israel’s ‘roof knocking’ tactic in Iraq

Controversial tactic consists of firing a warning missile above or near an intended target, to give residents time to flee before the real strike; Israel used it during the 2014 Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.

WASHINGTON – The United States borrowed an Israeli military tactic known as “roof knocking” to try to warn civilians before it dropped a bomb targeting Islamic State fighters in Iraq this month, but a woman was killed in the attack, a US military official said on Tuesday.
The controversial tactic consists of firing a warning missile above or near an intended target, to give residents time to flee before the real strike.

A commander of a brigade affiliated with the Ahrar al-Sham terrorist group has been killed in a blast that targeted his vehicle in northwestern Syria.

The commander of Ansar al-Haq brigade, Saoud Assaf Abu Mazen, was killed as his car exploded on a road near Masaran village in the northwestern province of Idlib, Arabic-language Syria Now news website quoted media reports as saying on Wednesday.

Sources said unknown attackers had planted an explosive device in Abu Mazen’s car.

No further details were available about the blast.

Over the past weeks, similar incidents have taken place in Idlib where rival terrorists fighting in Syria direct their weapons towards each other.

Earlier this month, infighting among Takfiri militant groups in Syria killed Abu Sakkar, the militant who had eaten the heart of a dead Syrian soldier about three years ago.
