Syrian army advances against Daesh near city of Homs
The Syrian army soldiers have made new advances towards the town of al-Qaryatayn in the central province of Homs in their latest push against the Takfiri Daesh terrorists wreaking havoc in the Arab country.
An unidentified Syrian military source said that an army unit, backed by popular defense groups, established control over a rural farmland south of the key town, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported on Tuesday.
The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said pro-government forces, supported by “intense” airstrikes provided by both Syrian and Russian warplanes, advanced towards Qaryatayn.
The Syrian troops also captured a series of strategic hilltops overlooking the town, the UK-based monitor group added.
Daesh had seized the strategic town in August 2015, kidnapping at least 230 people and razing its famed monastery of St. Elian.
The town lies on a key road connecting the ancient city of Palmyra to the Qalamoun region of Damascus.

Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef has faced a public backlash after saying that according to Jewish law some non-Jews should be forbidden to live in Israel.
“According to Jewish law, it’s forbidden for a non-Jew to live in the Land of Israel – unless he has accepted the seven Noahide laws,” Rabbi Yosef said during his weekly Saturday lecture on March 26.
Non-Jews who fail to live by the seven Noahide laws should be expelled to Saudi Arabia, he added.

Clashes have broken out between police and asylum seekers at Idomeni refugee camp in Greece, where over 11,000 people have been stranded since Balkan countries shut down their borders in late February.
Video footage from Ruptly shows police in riot gear lined up at the camp, with one officer pushing a refugee who angrily shouts at the policeman.
Crowds of refugees can also be seen making their way towards a police line, eventually shoving the officers, who push back with their riot shields and batons.
An estimated 11,500 people have been stranded at the camp after Balkan states closed their borders, cutting off the main refugee route to the European Union.
Camp residents are living in squalid conditions as they await their fate. The camp has been described as a “modern Dachau” by Greek Interior Minister Panagiotis Kouroumplis.

If US-led coalition really fought terrorism, Palmyra wouldn’t have fallen – Assad’s adviser to RT

The US-led coalition that launched its air campaign in Syria a year ahead of Russia’s intervention “didn’t lift a finger” to prevent Islamic State terrorists from capturing Palmyra, Syrian President Bashar Assad’s political adviser Bouthaina Shaaban told RT.
A day after the ancient city of Palmyra was retaken by the Syrian forces, Shaaban told RT that the western coalition that started its operation in Syria in September 2014 only “pretended to fight terrorism,” but in fact “did nothing” to prevent terrorists from gaining ground.
“The satellites could have detected them [terrorists coming to Palmyra] and they could have launched an airstrike,” she noted, adding that apparently the coalition had not been “sincere in its attempts to eradicate terrorism.”
On the other hand, the call for a wider international coalition to fight terrorism voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin is very important to Syria, Shaaban stressed, adding that Russia has proved the seriousness of its commitment.
“Those who really want to fight terrorism must respond to President Putin’s call and help the Syrian Arab Army and its allies such as Russia, Iran and Hezbollah,” she said.

Jewish man who stormed Paris synagogue in jihadist costume not charged
Police called the man, who is in his 40s, to a hearing on Friday, the day after he rushed into the Chabad synagogue in Vincennes wearing a djellaba – a loose-fitting Moroccan robe – and carrying toy Kalashnikov rifles, Le Figaro reported. The incident occurred on Purim, when it is traditional to dress in costume.
“I wanted to lighten the mood, I think I made a big mistake,” he told another Paris-based paper. “Purim is a special party where you can let go and drink. I had an Arab costume with a red and white headscarf and a Kalashnikov. Arriving at the synagogue, I told the soldiers that it was a fake. I laughed with them. I shouted ‘Allahu Akbar,’” a phrase terrorists often use while committing attacks.

Israeli lawmaker: US Jewish leaders threatened to stop helping Israel due to insults
TEL AVIV (JTA) — Knesset member Yair Lapid claimed American Jewish leaders said they would stop advocating for Israel due to government ministers’ insults of Reform and Conservative Jews.
In a Knesset speech Monday, Lapid said American Jewish leaders approached him following the campaign last year against the Iran nuclear agreement, telling him it was the “last time” they would lobby the government on behalf of Israel.
“This is a blow to our strategic alliances because the Jewish communities are the ones that create political power for Israel everywhere,” said Lapid, of the centrist Yesh Atid party. “Last year, again and again, community leaders told me, ‘If this is how you treat us, don’t come asking for help in international institutions or any governments.’”
Since Israel’s governing coalition formed last year — and particularly since the government passed a plan to reform the Western Wall — senior haredi Orthodox politicians have directed insults and epithets at non-Orthodox Jews.

A prosecutor for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) says there was no military need for an Israeli soldier to shoot and kill a wounded Palestinian last week. The soldier is being held in custody as the investigation continues.
Prosecutor Lt. Col. Edoram Rigler made the comments during a hearing on Tuesday in Kastina, where the prosecution asked for nine additional days of pre-indictment detention for the soldier amid the ongoing investigation.
The prosecution could ask to detain the soldier longer once it files an indictment, the Jerusalem Post reported.
The soldier made international headlines after allegedly shooting and killing a wounded Palestinian on Thursday. The Palestinian, accused of stabbing another Israeli soldier, was immobilized on the ground and shot dead. A video of the incident quickly spread on social media.

Obama’s Jewish liaison, earning thanks for a thankless job, says goodbye
WASHINGTON (JTA) – You get to listen to Jews yelling at you. You get to listen to mandarins tell you why they won’t listen to Jews. You get to emcee a cappella competitions.
Who wouldn’t want to be White House Jewish liaison?
Matt Nosanchuk lasted nearly three years in a post — officially titled associate director of public engagement — that may be the apotheosis of thanklessness. He stepped down last week.
Notably, Nosanchuk wound it up with plenty of thanks from some of those who made clear their antipathy to the administration he represented.
