Syria condemns US troops deployment as blatant aggression
Syria has strongly criticized the United States for the deployment of a contingent of troops on its soil, saying the move amounts to aggression against national sovereignty.
A Syrian Foreign Ministry official on Thursday called the reported deployment of 150 US troops to Rumeilan airport east of Syria as “an unacceptable and illegal intervention” which came without authorization from the Syrian government.
“We received with great concern the reports about the entry of 150 American soldiers to the Syrian territory of Rumeilan,” said the official, adding, “The Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns this blatant aggression, which represents a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty.”
The official said the deployment clearly violated the territorial integrity of Syria and ran contrary to internationally recognized norms and conventions. He called for governments and responsible bodies to take action against the US move.
In its biggest expansion of ground forces in Syria since the beginning of the conflict in the country in 2011, US President Barack Obama announced Tuesday that 250 special troops will be sent to Syria in the coming weeks.
Russian media revealed Wednesday that a first batch of US army personnel, including 150 soldiers and officers, arrived safely to the Kurdish controlled Rumeilan Military Airport in the eastern Syrian province of Hasakah.
“Some have been flown by helicopters to Rumeilan airfield, and some arrived across the border with Iraq. There are instructors and intelligence personnel among them,” a Kurdish security source told Sputnik News.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday that Moscow is seeking detailed information about the new US plan, including the precise purpose of the deployment.

The Austrian parliament has adopted one of Europe’s most restrictive refugee laws, allowing the government to declare a state of emergency if the number of migrants threatens “national security.” It may also directly reject refugees at the border.
The toughest-ever bill, passed by 98 to 67 on Wednesday, allows the Austrian government to declare a state of emergency if the number of migrants unexpectedly goes up, thereby posing “a threat to national security.”

Two members of the cell have already moved to ISIS controlled territory. Arrest warrants were issued for six people affiliated with ISIS on Thursday evening, four of which planned to attack the Israeli Embassy in Rome and the Vatican.
Milan prosecutor Maurizio Romanelli told reporters that investigators intercepted communications from within ISIS held territory ordering attacks in Italy, “with particular attention to the city of Rome” and focusing on the Holy Year pilgrimage now underway.

Trump vows to put ‘America first,’ criticizes Obama for ‘snubbing’ Israel
In his largely anticipated formal foreign policy speech, the US Republican presidential hopeful laid out a policy putting his country before others and slammed the current administration’s treatment of the Jewish State. In his first formal foreign policy speech, US Republican front-runner Donald Trump vowed Wednesday to put American security “above all else” if elected president and accused President Barack Obama of snubbing Israel.
Many elements of Trump’s speech were similar to his typical campaign remarks, but he delivered them in a much more sober, restrained manner. Critics have said repeatedly that he has not shown an ability to act and sound “presidential.”

2nd chance? Nazi salute video failed to unseat Merkel party members, media find

Three of Angela Merkel’s fellow party members have been exposed for chanting right-wing slogans and showing off badges bearing Nazi swastikas. The ugly events of a decade ago have caused a fresh scandal in the chancellor’s CDU party.
It happened in 2005, when three young men just on the cusp of their political careers, Christoph Brzezinski, Danny Freymark and Lukas Krieger, made a trip to the Latvian capital of Riga.
There, the young men recorded a home video now at the center of the scandal. Proclaiming “Germany for Germans” and “fighting Jewish Bolshevism” and the like, they held up pins showing the Nazi swastika and called it “a badge of honor.”
Although the video first popped up in 2008, BILD newspaper dragged it to the fore again this week.
All three are now deeply regretting what they did back in 2005, insisting the remarks were made in a drunken state, with Lukas Krieger declaring he made “the most serious mistake of my life and I regret it.” Similar statements were made by Freymark and Brzezinski.
