  • Social worker Alexandra Mezher, 22, was murdered in Mölndal on Monday
  • Gothenburg suburb last year took in more unaccompanied refugee children than anywhere else in the country – 4,041 added to a population of 63,000
  • Received £22.6million to provide housing for unaccompanied minors – the most state funding per capita than any town or city in Sweden

Standing on a street corner in the pitch black night, a youth brandishes a broken walking stick like a weapon.

Wrapped up warm in a thick parka coat Mohammed jokes with his friends as passers-by watch the gang of unruly youths hanging around one of the few shops still open with suspicion.

As I approach, the 16-year-old drops the baton, his friend kicks it away, trying to hide it.

Ruined: The Gothenburg suburb of Mölndal is in the spotlight this week after the young, beautiful social worker Alexandra Mezher, 22, was stabbed to death in a frenzied attack at the child migrant centre where she worked

Trouble: Those living in the town say its landscape has been changed by the sudden influx of 8,000 migrants last year. Police say they are so over-stretched and have to let some offences go  – particularly drug crime

‘Mölndal is the best place in the world,’ Mohammed claims. ‘I have lived here my whole life. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.’

His family arrived in Sweden as refugees in the 1980s. Iraqi Kurds they were forced to flee Saddam Hussein merciless vendetta against this persecuted people.

His father stayed on to fight the regime – a volunteer to the fearless Peshmerga fighters, Mohammed announces proudly.

‘Sweden is very good for people who want to live a peaceful life,’ the youngster explains in flawless English.

‘Everyone is treated with respect. And Swedish people are kind.’

Mohammed’s friends have similar stories. Many were born in Sweden, others arrived as children – all of their families are from other countries – the Middle East, Africa or Eastern Europe.

‘At my school there are people from 25 different countries,’ he tells me.

‘And there are lots of new kids at school who have just arrived as refugees.’

A mob of black-clad masked men went on a rampage in and around Stockholm’s main train station last night beating up refugees and anyone who did not look like they were ethnically Swedish.

Before the attack, the group of 200 people handed out xenophobic leaflets with the message ‘Enough now’.

Swedish media reported that the thugs, allegedly linked to Sweden’s football hooligan scene, were targeting unaccompanied minors with a ‘foreign’ background.

The mob, wearing all-black balaclavas and armbands, ‘gathered with the purpose of attacking refugee children’ Stockholm police spokesman Towe Hagg said.

‘Police are now looking into the leaflets that were handed out by masked people before the attack’.

Authorities confirmed that at least 40-50 people went on a rampage at 9pm on Friday night attacking migrants.

Witnesses told Aftonbladet newspaper that they saw a gang of black-clad thugs attacking refugees at the station.

‘I saw maybe three people who were beaten. That was no football brawl or something similar. They targeted migrants. I was quite scared and ran away,’ a witness said.

The leaflet handed out before the attack refers to the alleged murder of Alexandra Mehzer, a 22-year-old aid worker knifed to death at the child centre where she worked in Molndal, Sweden.

A Somali-born 15-year-old migrant has been accused of killing her during a fight between two asylum-seekers.

  • Ahmad Farid claimed to be 16 but appears to have hair on his chin
  • Saad Alsaud is reported to have been the fastest 14-year-old in Sweden
  • Youssaf Khaliif Nuur claims he is 15, but he is 6ft tall and is said to shave
  • Sweden has been overwhelmed with ‘unaccompanied minors’ in what critics suspect is a huge fraud

Examine the three ‘children’ in these pictures. One is of Ahmad Farid, who claimed he was 16 but appears at least 18 or more in the snap in which he is laughing as he’s given a fluffy toy polar bear at a refugee reception centre.

Ahmad appears to have hair on his chin, and his powerful physique can be seen under his shirt.

The second is of Saad Alsaud, reported to have been the fastest 14-year-old in Sweden, dwarfing schoolboys and girls as they join him for a run.

Frans Timmermans, vice-president of the European Commission, doesn`t see any link between mass sex assaults on New Year’s Eve in Cologne and the ongoing refugee crisis, internal minutes has revealed. He also lamented the reintroduction of internal border checks within the Schengen zone.

The Commission’s members call for “unconditional rejection of false association between certain criminal acts such as the attacks on women in Cologne on New Year`s Eve, and the mass influx of refugees”, as the minutes of the body`s meeting from January 13, suggest.

Mass sex assaults that saw groups of people, presumably of North African and Middle East origin, harass and rob roughly 1000 women in the German city of Cologne on New Year`s Eve drew special attention to the issue of integration of migrants from war-torn countries into the European community.

More than 800 complaints were filed with the police in the aftermath of the events, with about 500 of them related to offences of sexual nature.

Turkey says it has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Ankara in protest at alleged violation of Turkish airspace by Russian jets.

“A Su-34 plane belonging to the Russian Federation air force violated Turkish airspace at 11:46 local time yesterday (Friday)” despite radar warnings, the Turkish Foreign Ministry claimed in a statement on Saturday.

The statement added that following the incident Ankara summoned the Russian ambassador to “strongly protest and condemn” the violation. The ministry, however, did not specify where the incident took place.

The ministry accused Russia of escalating tensions between the two countries, saying Moscow would be held responsible for any dire consequences.

“We stress once again that all the responsibility for any unwanted grave consequences as a result of any such irresponsible behavior will belong entirely to the Russian Federation,” it said.

Russia is yet to comment on Turkey’s claim.

Germany accused of ‘paying’ African countries to take back ‘foreign’ asylum seekers

Germany has been giving “financial incentives” to the embassies of some African countries to accept asylum seekers from third states who have been rejected by Germany without the consent of the migrants, a refugee aid organization claims.

Berlin has been adding specific “Readmission Agreements” to development aid accords with African countries in order to deport asylum seekers to these countries – regardless of their actual country of origin, “Pro Azyl” (For Asylum), a German refugee rights organization, alleges.

“These agreements commit the African countries to readmitting their own citizens who have had asylum turned down by Germany, but it also allows them to readmit rejected asylum seekers from other countries, who travelled through these transit states,” Max Pichl, a member of Pro Azyl, told The Local.

According to the relief organization’s data, if German authorities are unable to deport a rejected asylum seeker because they lack sufficient information and documents to determine or confirm their country of origin, they address a third nation’s embassy and pay for documentation to be issued “confirming” such a person’s nationality as their citizen so that the migrant can eventually be deported to that country.

“It is difficult to say how many people it affects. The cases only come to light on an individual basis when someone who has been sent back to Africa reports it,” Pichl told The Local, adding that there is “a very long list of countries with whom Germany has such agreements,” according to which “countries are obliged to take back migrants, but nothing more is specified.”

Donald Trump is making waves in the US with his controversial presidential campaign. In the Czech Republic, one politician is known for a similar style, and he has already realized his presidential ambition.

Milos Zeman may not have the same executive powers as his American counterpart, but he certainly makes his voice heard by (the sometimes shocked) Czechs.

At times, the two politicians’ flamboyant rhetoric is so alike it’s hard to tell them apart. Feel free to try it yourself in the quiz below!

Lavrov described the American claims as “trumped-up and brazen” in his phone call with the US Secretary of State on Friday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian FM “stressed that the blame for delicately fanning tensions in bilateral relations lies fully with Washington,” it added.

According to the ministry, the phone conversation, in which Lavrov and Kerry also discussed the situation in Syria, was initiated by the US side.

AJC in Berlin urges action to change Arab refugees’ anti-democratic values

MUNICH (JTA) – Amid fears that Muslim refugees’ arrival to Germany may cause problems for local Jews, the American Jewish Committee in Berlin called for a national summit on ways to combat anti-democratic values among the newcomers.

“It is five minutes before midnight, but not yet too late,” said AJC Berlin director Deidre Berger in statement published Thursday by AJC, in which is calling for holding national summit on strict educational priorities for refugees.

Approximately 1 million migrants entered Germany in 2015; more than half have asked for asylum. A majority come from Syria and other Muslim countries. Watchdog groups in France and the Netherlands said immigrants who arrived from the 1950s onward and their descendants are responsible for most violent anti-Semitic incidents today, as well as increases in attacks.

Indiana House unanimously passes anti-BDS bill

(JTA) — The Indiana House of Representatives unanimously approved a bill banning state dealings with entities that boycott Israel or its settlements.

The bill sent to the state’s Senate on Jan. 26 defines “the promotion of activities to boycott, divest from, or sanction Israel” as meeting the standard of “extraordinary circumstances” necessary under state law to mandate divestment from a company.

It includes in its definition “territories controlled by the Jewish state of Israel,” effectively including any bid to boycott settlements in its purview.

The Indiana bill states that the effort to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel is “antithetical and deeply damaging to the cause of peace, justice, equality, democracy and human rights for all people in the Middle East.”
