Israeli forces storm al-Aqsa Mosque, clash with Palestinians
Israeli forces have once again stormed the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in east al-Quds (Jerusalem) and clashed with the Palestinians who sought to enter the Islamic holy site.
The Israeli forces stormed the holy site, which is located in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds, on Sunday and prevented all Palestinian woman and men under the age of 30 from entering it, the Palestinian Ministry of Endowments in East al-Quds said.
The ministry further said that the Israeli forces shut down five gates of the compound in the Old City and set up barricades to search and inspect Palestinian worshipers at all the gates that remained open.
The ministry said that armed Israeli forces then escorted almost 30 right-wing Israelies into the mosque.
Clashes also erupted between the worshipers and the Israeli forces, who reportedly fired stun grenades and rubber-coated bullets at the Palestinians.

Palestinian youths clash with police at Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem
Clashes and demonstrations erupted at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount on Sunday, with masked Palestinians throwing stones at police, and more peaceful protesters holding up photos of a toddler killed two days earlier by suspected Jewish settlers.Israeli security forces had to build a barrier between stone-throwers protesting at the Al-Aqsa mosque, and tourists seeking to visit one of Islam’s holiest sites, located in Jerusalem’s Old City, AFP, a French news outlet, reported.
The protest came in reaction to the death of an 18-month-old Palestinian child who was burned alive in a firebombing in a village located in the West Bank on Friday. His four-year-old brother and both parents were also seriously injured in the attack.

Netanyahu slams Abbas after attack on Palestinian family
PM says Israel ‘condemns’ such violence, while the PA ‘names public squares after the murderers of children’
August 2, 2015, 1:57 pm
Speaking in the wake of a firebombing attack in the West Bank that left a Palestinian toddler dead, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday lashed out at Mahmoud Abbas, accusing the Palestinian Authority president of failing to condemn acts of Palestinian terrorism.
Netanyahu, addressing the weekly cabinet meeting, compared Israeli officials’ swift condemnation of Friday’s alleged Jewish terrorist attack to what he said was an inadequate response on the part of PA officials after Palestinian terrorists targeted Israeli civilians.
“We deplore and condemn these murderers. We will pursue them to the end,” he said. “They name public squares after the murderers of children. This distinction cannot be blurred or covered up,” he said.
“It is important to say this even as we utter our condemnations and unite against the criminals among our people,” Netanyahu said.

Israeli lawmaker calls gay pride parade an ‘abomination march’
JERUSALEM (JTA) — One day after calling the Jerusalem gay pride parade an “abomination march,” an Israeli Knesset member was standing by his remarks.
“So here I say it again fearlessly: I object vehemently to violence, and promise to object no less vehemently to the recognition of same-sex couples in the Jewish State,” Betzalel Smotrich of the pro-settlement Jewish Home party wrote Sunday in a Facebook post. “I promise to fight violence, and no less than that, I will fight any attempt to besmirch traditional Jewish family values.”
Smotrich had made the remarks about the “abomination march” on Twitter the previous evening.
In response, LGBT activists flooded the lawmaker’s Facebook page over the weekend with photos of gay couples and memes mocking Smotrich, the Times of Israel reported.

During the sentencing, Matsri “sat shackled in court, wearing a blue kippah, glasses low on his nose and rocking back and forth,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
Matsri’s lawyer, Dean Steward, said he would file an appeal and argued that his client, a father of five, was a deeply religious and charitable man.

Human rights group details Israeli abuses against Palestinians
A Palestinian rights organization has detailed Israeli rights violations against Palestinians, saying that Israeli forces killed at least seven Palestinians and kidnapped another 316 in the month of July.
A report published on Sunday by Ahrar Center for Detainees’ Studies and Human Rights said that at least six people were killed across the occupied West Bank while one Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The report also pointed to the recent killing of an 18-month-old Palestinian baby in an arson attack by Israeli settlers against a Palestinian house in the village of Duma, south of Nablus, in the early hours of July 31.
The report further said that Israeli forces kidnapped at least 113 people in al-Quds (Jerusalem) and abducted 11 Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip in July.
Nearly 200 people were also abducted in the West Bank cities of al-Khalil (Hebron), Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarem, and Qalqilia in the same period.

Rockets fired from Gaza at Israel land near border
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israel.
One of the rockets fired late Saturday night landed on the Israeli side of the Gaza border fence. The other struck near the border in northern Gaza.
No casualties were reported in the attack, which did not trigger any warning alarms.
The attack comes a day after Hamas, which rules in Gaza, called for revenge on all Israelis for the death of a Palestinian baby in a firebombing on his home. Extremist Jews are believed to have carried out the attack.

Rivlin warns against wave of hatred, report says illegal outpost settlers suspected in arson attack
(JTA) — As thousands took part in protests Saturday night against violence and homophobia, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin warned against a wave of hatred “spreading throughout the land.”
Speaking at a rally in Jerusalem — others were held in Tel Aviv and Haifa — Rivlin said that Israel could no longer afford to downplay violent attacks carried out by Jews. The rallies were organized in response to a stabbing attack Thursday at Jerusalem’s annual gay pride parade and a subsequent arson attack against a Palestinian home in the West Bank that left 18-month-old Ali Dawabsha dead and his family members battling for their lives.
“Citizens of Israel, a Jewish and democratic Israel, democratic and Jewish Israel, needs a wake-up call today,” Rivlin said.
“These flames, which are consuming all of us, cannot be extinguished with weak condemnations [by politicians]. These flames cannot be extinguished with solidarity rallies; not even with this rally. These flames cannot be extinguished with posts on Facebook and statements in the media. These flames cannot be extinguished with repression, denial and disregard. Incitement, ridicule, frivolity, laxity and arrogance of the heart cannot extinguish the fire, but only allow it to burn stronger, with fervor, to spread in all directions, and permeate all walks of life,” Rivlin said. “We must be thorough and clear; from the educational system, to those who enforce the law, through to the leadership of the people and the country. We must put out the flames, the incitement, before they destroy us all.”

2 observant Jews sue N.Y. apartment building over electronic keys
(JTA) — Two Jewish New Yorkers have sued their Queens apartment complex over renovations they claim make it difficult to observe Shabbat.
Sulaymon Ibragimov and Murod Takhalov say that since the Rego Park complex installed motion detectors to trigger the lights, a Sabbath prohibition, they cannot use their electronic key fobs to open the doors to the building on the Sabbath, nor can they use the stairs rather than the elevator, which also is not allowed on the Sabbath, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
In the lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Federal Court, the men alleged religious discrimination under the Fair Housing Act, according to the newspaper.
The renovation at the 20-building complex began in 2012. The LeFrak Organization told the Daily News in a statement that the new systems were installed in compliance with federal Department of Housing and Community Renewal rules and regulations.
