US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has lambasted German Chancellor Angela Merkel for admitting hundreds of thousands of migrants, saying this could be “the end of Europe.” He also said America could have “very good relations” with Russia.
The real estate billionaire was speaking to the French conservative magazine Valeurs Actuelles, saying the German chancellor had made “a tragic mistake with the migrants.”
“If you don’t treat the situation competently and firmly, yes, it’s the end of Europe. You could face real revolutions,” Trump was quoted as saying, as cited by Reuters.

Saudi says ready to send troops to Syria
Saudi Arabia has expressed its readiness to deploy special forces to Syria if the US-led coalition allegedly hitting Daesh militants decides to deploy ground troops.
“We will discuss details with experts from the countries involved to decide on the nature of the participation,” Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told reporters during a visit to Morocco on Wednesday.
The top Saudi diplomat, however, refrained from elaborating further on the issue.
On Monday, Jubeir held out the possibility of dispatching Saudi forces into Syria as part of the US-led coalition allegedly fighting Daesh in the conflict-hit Arab country.
“There is a discussion with regard to a ground force contingent, or a special forces contingent, to operate in Syria by this international US-led coalition against ISIS (Daesh) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed its readiness to provide special forces to such operations should they occur,” he said during a visit to Washington.
The idea of Riyadh’s possible participation in ground operations in Syria was first raised on February 4 by Ahmed Asiri, a spokesman for the Saudi Defense Ministry.
Although swiftly welcomed by allies like the United States, the proposal was met with huge criticism from Syria and Damascus’ allies. Bahrain and the UAE also followed in Saudi Arabia’s footsteps and hinted their preparedness for similar deployments.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has spoken out against US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, calling her a “war hawk with bad judgment” who gets an “emotional rush out of killing people.”
“A vote today for Hillary Clinton is a vote for endless, stupid war,” Assange wrote via the @wikileaks Twitter account on Tuesday.
He added that he has “years of experience in dealing with Hillary Clinton and have read thousands of her cables. Hillary lacks judgment and will push the United States into endless wars which spread terrorism.”
Assange also highlighted Clinton’s “poor policy decisions,” which he said have “directly contributed” to the rise of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Syria invasion plan? Turkey will defend its ‘Aleppo brothers,’ says PM Davutoglu

Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu pledged to return a “historical debt” to Turkey’s “Aleppo brothers” who helped defend the country in the early 20th century, just days after Russia warned of Ankara’s intentions to invade Syria as the rebels there falter.
“We will return our historic debt. At one time, our brothers from Aleppo defended our cities of Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaras, now we will defend the heroic Aleppo. All of Turkey stands behind its defenders,” Davutoglu said at the meeting of the Party of Justice and Development parliamentary faction, which he heads.
Davutoglu was apparently referring to World War One and subsequent events in the Turkish War of Independence, seemingly glorifying the defense and retaking of Turkish cities from the Allied forces. Yet, he failed to mention that the Turks had been drawn into the war by Ottoman imperial ambitions. Turkey had entered the conflict by shelling the Russian port of Odessa from the sea. It then suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Russian troops in the war’s southern theater, before the Ottoman Empire was occupied and divided by the Allies. At the time, the three cities Davutoglu named saw thousands of Armenians and other minorities slaughtered by Turkish nationalists as part of the Armenian Genocide, which Ankara denies to this day.

The 28-member trans-Atlantic military block, along with a number of European countries, is intentionally hyping up the “myth” that Russia allegedly poses a so-called “threat” to Sweden and the Baltic states, Russia’s Foreign Minister said.
“The leaders of NATO member states and a number of European countries, especially Britain, the Nordic countries, the Baltic counties neighboring us, Poland, Romania and some others, are whipping up ‘Russia’s threat’ myth, as well as the idea that we are planning to use our nuclear weapons to intimidate Sweden and the Baltic countries,” Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Moskovsky Komsomolets daily.

Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina quit presidential race after New Hampshire disasters, leaving just SIX Republican candidates
- Fiorina’s one-note campaign never caught on in a year when Donald Trump‘s charisma stole the show
- ‘I suspend my candidacy today,’ she wrote in a statement
- Carly took one last shot at Hillary Clinton, advising young females not to ‘vote a certain way or for a certain candidate because you’re a woman‘
- New Jersey governor Christie slumped to sixth place with 7.4 per cent in New Hampshire where he had gambled on doing well
- Poor finishes meant neither Fiorina nor Christie were invited to the only South Carolina primary debate
- Christie’s attack on Rubio as a robotic talking-point sputterer has been dubbed a murder-suicide as it appeared to turn voters off of them both
Chris Christie dropped out of the race for president on Wednesday afternoon, two hours after a rival candidate quit.
Carly Fiorina, one of only two women in the U.S. presidential race, left her quixotic pursuit of the White House on Wednesday after a seventh-place New Hampshire primary finish in a field of eight candidates.
And Christie, the governor of New Jersey, soon followed suit after rumors of his campaign’s demise swirled all day.
Spokeswoman Samantha Smith confirmed the news to the Associated Press, saying that Christie broke the news of his decision to staff at his campaign headquarters in Morristown, New Jersey, late in the afternoon.
Christie is also calling donors and supporters to thank them for staying the course as his poll numbers gasped for air.

Syrian Kurds liberate strategic airbase, several villages in N Syria
Syrian Kurdish forces have managed to capture a strategic airbase and a town in the northern Aleppo province after days of fierce clashes with Takfiri terrorists.
Forces from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), backed by popular forces, established control over the town of Minnigh (also Menagh) and its adjacent Minnigh Air Base after expelling the occupying foreign-backed militants from the area on Wednesday night, AFP reported on Thursday, citing the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to the UK-based rights group, the development came after days of heavy clashes between YPG fighters and terrorists of the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front east of Minnigh. YPG forces first managed to liberate several villages east of Minnigh before reaching the town and freeing it in an overnight operation.
Takfiri terrorists “lost the only military airport they held in Aleppo province with the defeat at Minnigh,” the head of the rights group, Rami Abdel Rahman, said.
The Syrian government forces lost control of the airbase, which is on the road between Aleppo and the Turkish border, in early August 2013, when militants took it after almost a year-long siege.
The YPG has stated their desire to reestablish the link between Afrin, its stronghold in the region located some 15 kilometers (9 miles) east of Minnigh, and Kobani, another Syrian Kurdish town.
The foreign-backed conflict in Syria, which began in March 2011, has claimed the lives of more than 260,000 people and displaced almost half of the country’s population.

US creating ‘pool of blood’ in the region: Turkish president
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the United States is creating a “pool of blood” in the region by its support of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing, People’s Protection Units (YPG).
“Hey America! We know these [organizations] very well. But as you have never recognized them (as terror groups) the region has turned into a pool of blood,” Erdogan said on Wednesday, in one of his regular speeches to provincial officials at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.
“Hey America! How many times have we had to tell you? Are you together with us or are you with the PYD and YPG terror groups? What kind of partnership is this? Is there a difference between the PKK [the Kurdistan Workers’ Party] and the PYD? Is there a difference with the YPG?” the Turkish president went on to say.
A day earlier, Ankara summoned the US envoy to Turkey, John Bass, to protest against the remarks by US State Department spokesman John Kirby, who has said that Washington does not see the PYD as a terrorist organization.
Ankara, however, considers the group as an ally of the PKK, which it has been battling for months, but to the US, the PYD is seen as part of the fight against the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group that is wreaking havoc in the region.
Kurdish groups like the PYD and YPG have been very successful in confronting Daesh. They also insist that their participation in peace talks on Syria could greatly contribute to the success of any political solution to the crisis in the Arab country.
According to reports, Ankara, along with some other US allies, namely Qatar and Saudi Arabia, has provided support for militants operating inside Syria, particularly Daesh.

Iraqi premier warns against sending troops to Syria
The Iraqi premier has warned against the deployment of ground troops to Syria, describing the envisioned move as a “dangerous escalation.”
The warning, which was issued on Wednesday, came after some regional Arab countries expressed readiness to get involved in a ground operation in Syria.
“Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi called for a political solution to the Syrian crisis and not to send ground troops because that would lead to a dangerous escalation,” a statement posted on Abadi’s website said, noting that the Iraqi premier made the remarks during a visit to the Italian capital city, Rome.
Earlier in February, Brigadier General Ahmed Asiri, an adviser to the Saudi defense minister, said the kingdom was prepared to participate in any ground operations that “the [so-called US-led] coalition (against Daesh) may agree to carry out in Syria.”
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir echoed the same position on Wednesday, saying, “We will discuss details with experts from the countries involved to decide on the nature of the participation.”
Apart from the Saudi regime, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain have said they are willing to send troops to Syria to join the US-led campaign allegedly fighting Takfiri Daesh group.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem has said in reaction that any “ground intervention on Syrian territory without government authorization would amount to an aggression that must be resisted.”

No peace with Palestinians, says Israeli opposition chief
Israel’s opposition leader has dismissed the possibility of peace between Israelis and Palestinians, calling for unilateral separation from the Palestinians “as much as possible.”
Isaac Herzog, the head of the Labor-led Zionist Union coalition, made the comments during a Wednesday press conference to put forward his new security and diplomatic initiative.
He said negotiations between the two sides under Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas could not yield any result.
The Israeli politician proposed separating “Palestinian areas” on the outskirts of al-Quds (Jerusalem) from the city, saying that construction of the controversial separation barrier that has already walled off much of the occupied West Bank should be completed.
“And I believe that reality calls right now to understand that, tomorrow, peace is not around the corner. What needs to be done is separating from the Palestinians as much as possible. This is taking our fate in our own hands,” he said.
The last round of so-called peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians collapsed in 2014. Tel Aviv’s illegal settlement activities and its refusal to release senior Palestinian prisoners were among major reasons behind the failure of the talks.

Some Syrian opposition members backed by Riyadh and Washington came to Geneva with “non-negotiable” positions, Russian FM spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told RT, while calling allegations that Moscow is stalling the peace process a disinformation campaign.
Some Syrian opposition groups sponsored by the US and Saudi Arabia came to the Geneva peace talks with “absolutely non-negotiable” stances, Maria Zakharova told RT on Wednesday.
“They didn’t support these negotiations and meetings, they put pre-conditions to the negotiations,” she said, adding this is obstructing peace initiatives to end the country’s six year war.
Accusations made by some Western politicians and mass media outlets claiming that Russia is trying to undermine the Geneva talks are groundless, she said.

Russia offers March 1 ceasefire in Syria, US wants it now
Washington concerned Moscow wants more time to help Assad hit moderate rebels hard
MUNICH (AP) — Russia has proposed a March 1 ceasefire in Syria, US officials said Wednesday, but Washington believes Moscow is giving itself and the Syrian government three weeks to try to crush moderate rebel groups.
The United States has countered with demands for the fighting to stop immediately, the officials said. Peace talks are supposed to resume by February 25.
The talk of new ceasefire plans comes as the US, Russia and more than a dozen other countries meet in Munich to try to halt five years of civil war in the Arab country. The conflict has killed more than a quarter-million people, created Europe’s biggest refugee crisis since World War II and allowed the Islamic State to carve out its own territory across parts of Syria and neighboring Iraq.
Russia says it is supporting Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government as part of a counterterrorism campaign. But the West says the majority of its strikes are targeting moderate groups that are opposed to Assad and the Islamic State.
The most recent Russian-backed offensive, near Aleppo, prompted opposition groups to walk out of peace talks last month in Geneva, while forcing tens of thousands of civilians to flee toward the Turkish border.

WATCH: Hitler comedy ‘Look Who’s Back’ coming to Netflix
(JTA) — A German satirical movie about Adolf Hitler coming back to life in modern-day Germany will appear on the Netflix streaming service in April.
“Look Who’s Back,” which was released last year in Germany and grossed more than $20 million, according to news reports, is based on a 2012 book of the same name by German author Timur Vermes. The story imagines Hitler waking up in a parking lot in present-day Germany and struggling with modern life — from surfing the Internet to dealing with immigrants. Germans assume he is a comedian and he begins appearing on television.
In one scene in a preview, Hitler Googles “world domination.” In others he berates a movie director and greets Germans on a crowded street.
Netflix subscribers can start watching “Look Who’s Back” on April 9, though the streaming service will not offer it in several countries, including Germany and several of its World War II territories and allies: Austria, Japan, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Taiwan.

Why Bernie Sanders isn’t beating Joe Lieberman on Jewish pride
NEW YORK (JTA) — Maybe now that Bernie Sanders has become the first Jewish candidate to win a presidential primary, he’ll start getting the Joe Lieberman treatment.
Back in 2000, Al Gore’s decision to tap Lieberman as his running mate set off what felt like a months-long national bar mitzvah bash. But the party — and all the speculation about a Shabbat-observant, kosher-keeping vice president — proved premature, thanks in part to confused elderly Jewish voters in Palm Beach County. And then Lieberman’s presidential bid in 2004 totally flopped in the primaries.
So you’d think there still would have been room for some hoopla over a Jewish challenger holding a strong lead in the New Hampshire polls headed into the primary. Nope. Bubkes.
The lack of Jewmania this time around is partially attributable to Donald Trump’s hogging the media spotlight. But, more importantly, since Lieberman’s dance on the national stage, an African American was elected president, a Mormon won the Republican nomination and a woman is widely viewed as the favorite to win in 2016. Suddenly the whole first-Jewish-president thing seems like a yawner.
