Dutch ex-PM: ‘War criminal’ Netanyahu should be tried in Hague
(JTA) — Former Dutch prime minister and longtime pro-Palestinian activist Dries van Agt said Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal who should be prosecuted during his visit this week to the Netherlands.
Van Agt, who in 2012 said Jews should have had a state in Germany instead of the Land of Israel and who in 2008 spoke at rally in Rotterdam that featured a speech via satellite by Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, spoke about Israel’s prime minister this Monday during an interview with the NPO 1 public television channel.

German Jewish leaders: Far-right party’s strong showing in election a ‘nightmare’
(JTA) — A far-right party in Germany finished second in voting in the political home state of Chancellor Angela Merkel, ahead of Merkel’s party, spurring concerns among Jewish leaders in Germany.
Alternative for Germany, known as AfD, with its anti-immigrant and ultranationalist platform, picked up 21 percent of the vote Sunday in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, behind the center-left Social Democratic Party with 31 percent, which retained leadership in the state. Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union had 19 percent; it was the first time that the AfD surpassed the Christian Democrats in any German state election.
The fact that the right-populist party did so well — winning 18 seats in the 71-seat legislature — is widely seen as a further indictment of Merkel’s liberal policy toward accepting refugees from war-torn Muslim countries and has set off alarm bells among Jewish leaders in Germany.
“The AfD is not an option for Germany but an indictment of Germany,” Josef Schuster, the head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, told the German media after the results came in.

Donald Trump Jr. retweets psychologist who believes Jews manipulate society
WASHINGTON (JTA) — Donald Trump Jr. retweeted an attack on Hillary Clinton by Kevin MacDonald, a psychologist notorious for his theories of Jewish manipulation and control.
The Aug. 29 tweet itself had nothing to do with Jews or the theories that have made MacDonald popular among Holocaust deniers. In it, MacDonald referred to Clinton’s interactions as secretary of state with UBS, a Swiss bank that also has contributed to the Clinton Foundation.
Trump’s father, Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, has sought to make an issue of allegations that Clinton inappropriately dealt with foundation donors while she was secretary of state in President Barack Obama’s first term. Clinton is the Democratic nominee.

The mayor of the French port city of Calais is urging the government to completely dismantle the notorious ‘Jungle’ migrant camp as soon as possible. She has joined hundreds of protesters rallying for the closure of the troubled facility.
Natacha Bouchart, who has served as Calais mayor since 2008, has joined French truckers, farmers, police and others calling for the demolition of the refugee and migrant camp. Bouchard estimates 9,000 immigrants are now living in the ‘Jungle’. Locals as well as drivers moving through the area complain of regular attacks by the camp’s population.

Russian military has started massive drills to test troops’ combat readiness and cooperation between different branches of military in the south of Russia. The exercise involves over 12,000 servicemen including Navy, Airborne and Aerospace units.
The strategic command-and-staff games codenamed Caucasus2016 kicked off on Monday in the Southern military district and will last until September 10, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday.
The main goal is to check and upgrade skills of military commanders “in planning, preparation and conducting of combat operations” by various branches of military.
“About 12,500 servicemen as well as aviation, military hardware and warships” are involved in the drills.
Apart from the command skills, one of the key aims of the drills will be “testing of new military equipment in field conditions.”
Territorial defense involving wider usage of “aviation and maritime forces of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian flotilla” will also be tested in the upcoming days.

Poll: Young Americans divided on immigration, border control
Minorities aged 18-30 say Clinton would better deal with illegal immigrants than Trump; more whites trust billionaire to secure border
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Young Hispanics, Asian-Americans and African-Americans are much more likely to trust Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump to deal with immigrants living in the United States illegally. But young whites tend to trust Trump more on issues related to illegal immigration, including securing the border.
Among young people overall, 47 percent say they think Trump would better handle securing the border, 26% say Clinton would, and 18% say neither would.
That’s according to a new GenForward survey of adults age 18 to 30 by the Black Youth Project at the University of Chicago with the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. There’s little division on which candidate would better handle immigrants in the country now without permission, with 39% choosing Clinton, 38% Trump and 14% neither.
But on all those questions there are significant divisions based on race and ethnicity.
Among young whites, more say that Trump would better handle securing the border than Clinton, by a 57% to 19% margin, while 49% say Trump would deal with immigrants who are currently living in the United States illegally, versus 31% for Clinton.
