Commentary — Christie is probably just an opportunist, and perhaps he sees himself as a potential running mate, but the fact that this establishment Republican governor is endorsing Trump is pretty good evidence that Trump’s nomination is all but inevitable.

NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE: There is no doubt in my mind, and I’ve been saying this from the time I entered the campaign, that the single most important thing for the party is to nominate the person to give us the best chance to beat Hillary Clinton.
The one person that Hillary and Bill Clinton don’t want to see on that stage come next September is Donald Trump.
They know how to run the standard political playbook against junior senators, and run them around the block.
They do not know the playbook with Donald Trump because he’s rewriting the playbook.
He’s rewriting the playbook of American politics, because he us providing strong leadership that is not dependent upon the status quo, and so the best person to beat Hillary Clinton in November on that stage last night is undoubtedly Donald Trump.
