Far from being a repressed and marginalized minority during its exile in Europe, Jews were a protected elite, and their exploitation of serfs and peasants, from plying then with alcohol at taverns to running pawn shops, created considerable ill will. As the Jews then spread to Western Europe and North America, their predatory business practices only increased, to the point where they now dominate the economies of Western countries.
