Ron Paul's Courageous Vote Against the Resolution Condemning Gaza

Ron Paul and His Courageous Vote Against the Resolution Condemning the Palestinians of Gaza!

On Wednesday, March 5, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 951, which condemned the Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians, but said nothing of the Israeli rocket attacks and assassinations that have killed or wounded hundreds of Palestinians, including many children and babies over the past few months and weeks.

The resolution passed the House with an unequivocal majority of 404 to 1 with four representatives voting present and nineteen abstaining. Who was the lone Member of Congress to stand up to the Israel Lobby? Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) not only voted against HR 951, but also made a very strong statement explaining why he opposed such a biased pro-Israel statement.

Below is Rep. Paul’s statement he gave to the House before the vote:

Mr. Speaker I rise in opposition to H. Res. 951, a resolution to condemn Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli civilians. As one who is consistently against war and violence, I obviously do not support the firing of rockets indiscriminately into civilian populations. I believe it is appalling that Palestinians are firing rockets that harm innocent Israelis, just as I believe it is appalling that Israel fires missiles into Palestinian areas where children and other non-combatants are killed and injured.

Unfortunately, legislation such as this is more likely to perpetuate violence in the Middle East than contribute to its abatement. It is our continued involvement and intervention – particularly when it appears to be one-sided – that reduces the incentive for opposing sides to reach a lasting peace agreement.

Additionally, this bill will continue the march toward war with Iran and Syria, as it contains provocative language targeting these countries. The legislation oversimplifies the Israel/Palestine conflict and the larger unrest in the Middle East by simply pointing the finger at Iran and Syria. This is another piece in a steady series of legislation passed in the House that intensifies enmity between the United States and Iran and Syria. My colleagues will recall that we saw a similar steady stream of provocative legislation against Iraq in the years before the US attack on that country.

I strongly believe that we must cease making proclamations involving conflicts that have nothing to do with the United States. We incur the wrath of those who feel slighted while doing very little to slow or stop the violence.

Ron Paul’s  excellent statement pointed out that it was not just Palestinians who were firing rockets that were killing innocents in civilian areas. Israel has been doing it steadily and murderously for years.

I mentioned Paul’s lone vote in my article on the Jerusalem shootings in connection to Israel’s far worse record of terrorism. Read that article below and you will learn a lot of important background information that will aid you in discussions on other forums and with friends and family.

If I were in the House of Representatives, I would have said a bit more than Paul,

“I will endorse a resolution that condemns terrorism if it also condemns the much more deadly Israeli terrorism and if it finally condemns Israeli terrorism against the United States (such as in the Lavon Affair and the Attack on the USS Liberty) which Congress has never addressed, other than by sending Israel more billions of our money!”

Ironically, on the Paul Blogs I have read, he is being called an anti-Semite for his lone dissenting vote.

Today, with the powerful influence of Jewish loyalists to Israel with their hands on so many control levers of the press, anyone who criticizes Israel’s terrorism, torture, and oppression of the Palestinian people is an “anti-Semite.” But somehow, Israeli officials who threaten Palestinians with a “Holocaust” and who call Palestinians “cockroaches” or “animals” are never labelled by the media as anti-Palestinians or anti-Gentiles. And when Israel kills 32 children as it did last week in rocket attacks in Gaza, those attacks are never, never called “terrorism.” We have learned by now that it is only terrorism when Jewish students are killed, not when Palestinian grade schoolers and babies in their beds are killed.  We hear constantly about the threat of radical Islam but little about the threat of Jewish extremists who are not off in a remote desert somewhere but constitute the media arbitrators like Wolf Blitzer or the Jewish Neocons such as Perle and Wolfowitz, the primary architects of the Iraq War.

On the Blogs, Paul’s  followers defended Paul’s vote by mostly saying that it is none of America’s business to make these kinds of resolutions, but I also see that many of Paul’s supporters are starting to see that the whole “Israel is a victim of terrorism” story is nothing but a complete inversion of the truth. Israel was born of terrorism, grew strong and expanded on terrorism, and is maintained by terrorism. No nation supported by America since the Second World War has murdered more children, tortured more people in prisons, stole more land, oppressed more civilians, launched as many wars and murderous incursions, or has developed more arsenals of nuclear, chemical and horrific biological weapons. In addition, Israel’s fifth column in America, who saw Saddam as their greatest enemy in the Mideast, formed the primary driving force for the American tragedy and folly in Iraq and throughout the Mideast.

Israel Firsters such as the thoroughly Jewish-extremist Neocons, facilitated by a heavily Jewish media, told the lies and brought on this war that has killed a million Iraqis and brought on immense pain and suffering for almost everyone in that country;  caused the maiming or death of 50 to 60 thousand Americans ; the loss of an American national treasure; and it only strengthened the hand of those who hate America across the world.

The Iraq War, was clearly a war for Israel —  it was no war for America, it was a war we were manipulated into by those who have no allegiance to America, whose only loyalty is Israel. In fact, the war, was and is a war against America. It is a war that has injured or killed ten times the number of Americans as were killed or hurt in the 911 attacks, cost America many times over the huge cost of 911 , and it has only aided Al Qaeda and all the radicals who hate America across the world.

And, as Ron Paul pointed out, why do they hate America? Tens of millions of more people have grown to hate America since this insane war, since they learned that all the justifications which launched this devastating, murderous war were lies. There were no weapons of mass destruction, no nuclear program, no deals for yellow cake uranium and no Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Now, after tens of thousands of ruined or ended American lives, hundreds of thousands of damaged American families, trillions of dollars expended at a time when many Americans are going bankrupt and losing everything… there now is an Al Qaeda in Iraq and more popular support for it than ever.

With the damage done to America by this war for Israel, what idiot can still dare to say that this war is “Patriotic War.” It is and has been, from the beginning, a war against America and as Ron Paul has pointed out, a war against every principle of our Constitution and every value of America’s Founding Fathers.
