By Ian Mosley. A Paris fashion designer will now face a race-relations kangaroo court because he said something unflattering about Jews while intoxicated.
A Reuters article reports: “Fashion designer John Galliano will tell a Paris court that multiple addictions to drugs and alcohol led him to lose all self-control when he defends himself against charges of anti-Semitic behavior on Wednesday. Galliano’s trial is the latest chapter in a saga that began in February when Galliano was questioned by French police after a couple accused him of hurling drunken racist and anti-Semitic abuse at them on the terrace of a café. The February 24 incident — combined with a video in which an apparently inebriated Galliano was filmed telling a woman he loves Hitler and that her parents might have been gassed in a Nazi death camp — led to the designer’s dismissal from his post as creative director for Parisian fashion house Dior. Magistrates were expected to arrive at a decision quickly in the trial.”
Most likely, he just disliked the Jewish couple involved in that incident, but he made the mistake of saying out loud what he was thinking. There’s no Free Speech in France, which means, you are at the mercy of politically correct tribunals.
Mr. Galliano seems to be trying a European version of the famous “Mel Gibson gambit,” wherein a celebrity says something he shouldn’t have, politically and racially speaking, he then claims to have beed drugged or doped up. Then the celebrity and his tripping tongue flee into rehab for a few months to hide from the paparazzi and the media feeding frenzy and let it all (hopefully) die down.
Sometimes it works, usually it doesn’t. Dawg the Bounty Hunter seems to have been able to slink back under the wire after a few months in the dog house, so to speak, over getting caught on an answering machine saying the N-word.
Unfortunately, Galliano not only uttered his tipsy truth about Jews, but he did so in France, where speaking the truth about a certain tribe is illegal, tipsy or otherwise. Most of these celebrities who make verbal slips like this probably are drunk or stoned at the time, since they’re risking their careers and millions of dollars by making such statements.
It’s curious that people who work with the Jews often wind up hating them.
