Even Maine Is Getting Tough on Illegal Aliens

by Jeff Davis

The Federation for American Immigration Reform reports: “In one of his first acts as the recently-elected Governor of Maine, Paul LePage rescinded an executive order by former Governor John Baldacci that had turned Maine into a partial sanctuary state for illegal aliens. Specifically, the rescinded order prevented state employees – other than state law enforcement officers – from inquiring or disclosing information relating to an individual’s immigration status except for under limited circumstances.”

It certainly helps the illegals to get government jobs and benefits if people are forbidden to ask why they don’t speak English. Maybe the White people of Maine didn’t like the idea of having to compete for jobs with people fresh out of Mexico, and the Mexican gets a leg up because he’s a Latino and business owners are often scrambling to keep the government quota commissars off their backs.

The FAIR article notes “To reverse the former sanctuary policy, Governor LePage issued a new executive order explicitly rescinding the 34 FY 04/05. The new order states that employees and officials of the State of Maine shall cooperate with employees and officials of the federal government on all matters pertinent to immigration” …The new order also states that Governor LePage’s Administration intends to promote the enforcement of federal immigration law. Amnesty advocates decried the new executive order.”

OK, I’ll admit it. Sometimes electing a Republican can make a difference. The Tea Party seems to mark a significant change in which their candidates at least slightly resemble normal Americans instead of the super rich elitists, who keep selling us out. LePage was endorsed by the Tea party during his campaign.

It seems pretty clear what is happening here. Maine has no intention of going the way of New York, Illinois, and California. Maine is a smaller state than any of those, and they simply can’t afford the kind of insane spending that illegal aliens cause.

Maine doesn’t want to end up bankrupt like California or laying off cops like New Jersey. Maine is probably getting very tired of the crime which illegal aliens engage in –from gang crimes to blatant disregard for any and all environmental laws as they pour used oil into the storm drains, spray paint cars in their backyards and sleep ten to a room, ignoring any housing laws. Maine is getting tired of having their emergency rooms clogged with illegals using it as their primary care. Maine is getting tired of having to push button two for English all the time. Just like the rest of the country.

It’s not clear if this is a largely symbolic gesture, which affects only a handful of state jobs or if more serious efforts against illegal aliens will follow. At least it proves that if someone wants White votes, they better be tough on illegal immigration –even in Maine.
