by Jeff Davis. One of the most little known and least reported problems facing White people today is the systematic discrimination in employment facing White men -and women- over the age of 40. This is one thing that makes older White workers so politically timid and pliable. They just keep their mouths shut and never rock the boat and hope they make it to retirement age.
If you lose your job at 48, you will probably never work another salaried job again in your life, except maybe as a Wal-Mart greeter. If you’re a high tech professional, you’ll wind up stringing together one contract job after another often having to move from city to city. So much for the stability that our parents or grandparents enjoyed as they approached retirement age.
A Reuters article reports: “Google Inc., which runs the world’s most popular Internet search engine, was ordered to defend itself against a lawsuit by a former manager who said he was fired for being too old, clearing the way for a trial. The California Supreme Court unanimously agreed that a trial court erred in dismissing a complaint by Brian Reid, who was hired in 2002 as a director of operations and engineering, and fired less than two years later at age 54 after being told he was not a good ‘cultural fit.’ ”
Another excuse for not hiring White people is usually that we are “over-qualified.” How crazy is it not to hire someone who is over-qualified? Are they afraid the White person will do too good a job?
The article notes “Thursday’s ruling upheld a state appeals court decision that the trial court erred in dismissing the lawsuit, and said the trial court should have considered ‘stray remarks’ from Reid’s colleagues, including that he was an ‘old man’ and ‘old fuddy-duddy,’ that might be seen as evidence of bias. The ruling means the case returns to the trial court.”
Since when is someone 54 too old? That’s still 11 years from the normal retirement age. Most people in their 50s are more than healthy enough to work, and if they’re intelligent White people, they’ve got years of important experience.
When the shoe is on the other foot and the plaintiff in a discrimination suit is a Black or homosexual, then stray hostile remarks by other people in the office would be known as “creating a hostile work environment” or worse.
Reuters goes on: “Reid is a former associate professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University who had helped develop the AltaVista search engine. He had alleged that while at Google, he was subjected to put-downs by a 38-year-old vice president who told him his ideas were ‘obsolete’ and ‘too old to matter,’ and that he was ‘slow, fuzzy, sluggish and lethargic.’ The plaintiff also said other colleagues made fun of his age, including a joke that a CD jewel case used as his office placard should instead be an LP, court records show.”
If the 54 year old plaintiff developed a major search engine earlier in his career, maybe the snotty 38 year old VP was the problem and needed to be demoted. And don’t get me started on how White inventors like this man get cheated out of any reasonable compensation for the great successes, they achieve. This man should have been a millionaire enjoying an early retirement, not a hen-pecked employee working for an insecure, abusive 38 year old, who likely felt his job was threatened.
The current Obama Depression has hit many White males, especially middle-aged White men, like a ton of bricks. Admittedly, the effects are highly random. If you were in the wrong business at the wrong time –such as construction, you could have been completely wiped out. There are tent cities forming all across American with many, many White faces lining up for free soup if available.
Most Americans are strung out with massive debt. If another big wave of lay offs starts up, most of these people won’t be able to pay off their mortgages on their over-priced homes. They’ll be moving into tent cities.
I’ve been saying for years that White people need to own some rural property, where they can build a house or at least park a used RV or mobile home. Don’t run up your credit card. Drive a modest used car that you can buy with cash. DON’T buy the insanely-overpriced house in the suburb or big city for $700k or more, that you’ll need 20 years to pay off. People should rent an apartment in the big city near where they work, and buy rural property in some safe White area far away from the Black and Latino slums. Millions of additional jobs could disappear in the near future and you’ll need a place for yourself and your family where you can wait out the next ten or twenty years because it could be that bad.
