Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan has warned Russia ‘not to play with fire’ after Vladimir Putin suggested the Su-24 jet was shot down after the U.S passed on details of its flight path.

Relations between the two countries have been deteriorating since Turkey shot down the Russian military plane near the Syrian border on Tuesday after claims it entered their airspace.

Moscow has threatened Ankara with economic retaliation for the incident and Putin even accused the U.S of leaking information about the flight to Turkey after they gave them prior warning of the mission.

Syria’s military says Ankara has recently increased its supplies of weapons, ammunition and equipment to militant groups fighting against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

The Syrian army command made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday, saying that Turkey sends the arms in shipments claiming they are humanitarian aid.

The statement added that Turkey had targeted the Syrian army positions with a number of mortar shells on Friday night.

Ankara has repeatedly been accused of being one of the main supporters of the militant groups operating in Syria, with reports saying that Turkey actively trains and arms the Takfiri militants there and facilitates their safe passage into the Arab country.

Turkish opposition daily Cumhuriyet published videos in a June report implicating the Turkish Intelligence Service, also known as the MIT, in ensuring safe passage into Syria for the Takfiri Daesh terrorists.

A still image grabbed from a video published on the website of the Turkish Cumhuriyet daily on May 29, 2015 shows mortar shells in boxes intercepted on a truck reportedly destined for Syria.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also said Russia has information that the son of Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has interest in oil business with the militants in Syria.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously accused Turkey of buying oil from Daesh, saying satellite images show long lines of trucks purportedly carrying oil from Daesh-controlled areas in northeast Syria into Turkey. Erdogan on Thursday denied the accusations.

The Syrian military has made advances against Daesh Takfiri militants in the east of Aleppo Province, Syrian state TV reports.

The armed forces on Saturday captured the villages of Kaskis and Akulaa as well as wide areas of agricultural land, retaking tunnels and fortifications built by the militants. The villages are located about 60 kilometers (40 miles) east of Aleppo City, northern Syria.

The seized areas are in the east of the Kweires airbase, which Syrian troops liberated earlier in November.

The army also managed to take several kilometers of a highway connecting Aleppo with the city of Raqqah, which is controlled by the Takfiri militants.

The official SANA news agency, meanwhile, reported that the army inflicted heavy losses on Daesh in Aleppo, killing a number of terrorists and destroying their weapons, ammunition and machinegun-equipped vehicles.

The Syrian government forces have also gained ground against Daesh in the southeast of the province of Homs, central Syria. They, furthermore, clashed with terrorists in the provinces of Deir Ezzor, Idlib and Hama, targeting their positions and gatherings.

Washington is urging Ankara to seal off a 100-kilometer stretch of borderline with Syria currently used by Islamic State for transportation of fighters and supplies into the Syrian war zone. The Turkish Army would need an estimated 30,000 personnel to do this.

The Obama administration is urging Turkey to ensure Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in Syria receives no supplies through the Turkish border, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources in Washington. The request involves sealing off part of the frontier between the western Turkish town of Kilis and Jarabulus in eastern Syrian.

Mystery over who bombed Turkish convoy allegedly carrying weapons to militants in Syria

“The game has changed. Enough is enough! The border needs to be sealed,” the WSJ cited a senior Obama administration official as saying in a message from the US government to Turkey. “This is an international threat, and it’s all coming out of Syria and it’s coming through Turkish territory.”

The US has called particular attention to a small part of the border between Jarabulus and Cobanbey, which is being used extensively by IS to transfer munitions and other supplies from Turkey to Syria, and foreign fighters in both directions.

Both the American and Turkish air forces halted their strikes on Syrian territory around the time Russia deployed S-400 air defense complexes at the Khmeimim airbase, from which it stages its own incursions against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

A spokesperson of the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) told Sputnik on Friday that the absence of anti-IS coalition airstrikes “has nothing to do with the S400 deployment” in Syria.

“The fluctuation or absence of strikes in Syria reflects the ebb and flow of battle,” the spokesperson said, adding that CJTF-OIR deliver airstrikes when and where it needs to, dedicating a lot of time to researching targets to ensure maximum effect and minimizing civilian casualties.

As CJTF-OIR reported on Friday, the US-led coalition had made no sorties against targets in Syria bsince Thursday, while airstrikes against Islamic State in Iraq continued, with the coalition making 18 strikes on terrorist positions.

Israel Defense Forces troops entered two West Bank villages in the early hours of Saturday to map out the homes of two Palestinians killed as they carried out separate car-ramming attacks Friday. The mapping procedure is conducted ahead of home demolitions.

Soldiers from Kedem Battalion and engineering troops from the Binyamin Brigade went to a house in Bir Nabala belonging to Fadi Hasib, who wounded two soldiers in an attack at Kfar Adumim Junction on Friday morning, the Hebrew media reported.

Hasib’s brother also attempted to run over a group of Israelis at the same Kfar Adumim bus stop on Sunday.

The troops also visited the home of 19-year-old Omar Za’aqiq, 19, of Beit Ummar, near Hebron, who wounded six soldiers in an attack at the entrance to the village. Palestinians protested as the forces went into the village, the Walla news website said, throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at the troops, who responded by using riot-dispersal measures.

Israel’s practice of demolishing the family homes of terrorists has been criticized by non-governmental groups, but government officials have repeatedly defended the measure as a deterrent against future terror attacks.

Argentinean lawmaker Rabbi Sergio Bergman has been tapped to serve as the minister of environment and sustainable development, in Mauricio Macri’s new center-right government.

Bergman, who will start his new position on December 10 when the new government is sworn in, is believed to be the only rabbi serving as a cabinet minister outside of Israel.

Bergman was named by Macri in 2011 to head the his party’s slate of the parliamentary candidates for the Buenos Aires City Municipal Legislature and in 2013 to head the list of National parliamentary candidates, winning both elections. He is the rabbi of the oldest synagogue in Argentina which is part Fundación Judaica, a network of Jewish institutions founded and led by Bergman.

Bergman is a friend of the Pope Francis, who served as the archbishop of Buenos Aires prior to his election as pope. The rabbi wrote a book of religious essays, titled “A Gospel According to Pope Francis,” which praises the Pope as a religious leader, social worker and political statesman.
