New Israeli Government Seeks to Seize West Bank Permanently

All indications are that the new Israeli government intends to permanently seize as much of the Palestinian West Bank territory as possible as part of a drive to permanently destroy any chance of a “two-state solution,” a report in The New Observer has said.

Since the election, the Israeli army has been deployed to protect even the most overtly illegal Jewish settlements in the West Bank and all-important portfolios of defense, housing, and construction have been given to Members of the Knesset (MK) of the new collation whose openly declared policy is to seize the West Bank.

The defense portfolio has been given to Likud MK Moshe Ya’alon, while the housing and construction portfolio has been given to Habayit Hayehudi MK Uri Ariel.

These two will now implement the earlier “Levy report.” This was a report on the “Legal Status of Building in Judea and Samaria” published on July 9, 2012, authored by a three member committee headed by former Israeli Supreme Court justice Edmund Levy.

It was appointed by Binyamin Netanyahu in January 2012 to investigate the legal status of unauthorized West Bank Jewish settlements and to examine “whether the Israeli presence in the West Bank is to be considered an occupation or not.”

Not surprisingly, the report concluded that Israel’s presence in the West Bank is not occupation, that the Israeli settlements are legal under international law, and recommended state approval for unauthorized Jewish settlement outposts.

This forms an official part of the Habayit Hayehudi’s party’s platform: the absorption of the West Bank into Israel.

One quarter of all illegal West Bank outposts are already regularly guarded by Israel Defense Forces soldiers. These 25 unauthorized outposts are guarded by a special force tasked with “community protection.” Soldiers from the force typically spend a full week at a time guarding and protecting the outpost where they are stationed.

Observers point out that Netanyahu’s strategy for the next few years will be to buy time on the Palestinian issue in order to change the demography of the West Bank.

This will be done by distracting American attention away from the Palestinian plight by continuing to lie about Iran’s mythical “atom bomb” and threating an attack on that nation.

In this regard the Jewish-dominated US mass media has been highly effective in persuading large numbers of Americans that Iran is on the point of acquiring nuclear weapons, even though all official intelligence reports show otherwise.

By continuing to distract American—and European—public opinion with an ongoing Iran charade, Israel hopes to eventually present the world with a West Bank fait accompli—majority Jewish occupation and therefore inclusion into Israel.
